I was recently hit by a car changing lanes. The car hit me on the RHS
causing the bike to fall on its LHS. This resulted in a smashed engine cover
    among other things.

The bike was recovered to Chiswick Honda where it was stored for 3 weeks
while the insurance company moved bits of paper around and arranged for the
bike to be viewed by an independent motorcycle engineer.

I collected the bike on Thursday after repairs had been carried out and
today (Sunday) I have noticed some damage to the front wheel and tyre which
I suspect was caused by the impact of the car hitting the bike.

I'm not optimistic about being abale to claim for this as the bike has been
with me for 3 days now and has done about 50 miles.

I am planning to replace front and rear tyres on Wednesday but what I want
to know is what can i do about the wheel damage?

Ideally i want to smooth over the abrasions and apply a protective coat of
    lacquer.

Here are some pics of the damage:-

Can anyone give me some tips on how to go about doing this?
A brand name and the name of a retailer would be helpful too.

    Thanks in advance

Doesnt look too bad.I'd lightly sand it around the damage, then use a
touch-up paint from a car dealer(the small ones with a nail varnish type
    brush in the thin tube).

You don't get anything unless you try... I'd ask them and see, I doubt
they'll think you're trying to fleece them.

  4. Print off the pics.
Write a letter to the Insurance companny admitting to being a blind
twat, and claim for the wheel.
If you can't be bothered (or they tell you to FRO)then do as suggested
earlier - lightly rub down the abrasions, and careful use of touch up
    paint.

Sod that. Get back to the InsCo and the Garage and let them know.

Last year, when I droppped the GSX, I didn't realise that there was a
really small ding in the tank. It didn't bother me, but I looked at
the resale value of the bike. I only realised when on last years
French Run and Ash noticed it.

I got in touch with the InsCo and Garage, and they got it sorted
without any quibbles. Dings, etc that are missed, do happen.

If they tell you to **** off, I'd be surprised. After all, the urls
you've posted, don't look as if it could have happened any other way.

Having looked at the pics, it's possible that this damage was hidden
under the mudguard when the engineer looked at the bike. I'd take it
back to Chiswick Honda and explain the situation, also inform the
insurance company that you aren't happy with the repair.

The tyre looks suspect as well. Don't know if it's the picture or has
    the casing been torn?

Spoke to Honda Chiswick who furnished me with a quote which they will
forward to the engineer who they apparently deal with regularly (they do a
    lot of ins. work apparently).

The engineer is the insurance companies representative effectively and he's
said he'll be happy with the workshops opinion ("sound as a pound honda
    chiswick" he said)

The quote certainly blew me away:-
    Labour £49.95
    Wheel £339.63
    Front BT45 £87.31
    VAT £83.46
    Total £560.35
