What's the word?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Aug 7, 2010.

  1. It's not "fettling". It's certainly not "maintenance".

There ought to be a word for sticking a bike on the ramp and just...
gently fitting a couple of bits, wiping it with an oily rag, stroking
it, tightening the odd bolt or two...

It's almost certainly a form of masturbation. Anyway, I have been
indulging in it with the Notrun the evening.

In your case, I'd suggest Werthing.

You mean a cross between fettling and frotting - Frettling or
    Frottling, take your pick.

It did strike me that I should retrieve the Enfield and start
investigating the feasibility of a fuel tank / rear sets / clip ons
    transplant...

I have plans to do that this week funnily enough. It's been in the
other garage out of sight for a while and I'd forgotten all about it
until yesterday. It needs selling before the weather turns and before
    my holiday.

My original thought had been "frotteurism", but the thought of that
and WUN was just too much.

    Nope, its "furtling".

"Noodling" is what we call it here. It's not confined to bikes either, as
just picking up a guitar or dicking about on the piano with no real need or
plan comes under the "noodling" heading.

What's the word for searching for the connector block for the speaker
faders[1], connecting the switchgear from another GL1500[2], getting
the same symptoms, and realising it was the speakers after all?

How do both speakers fail at the same time[3]?

Oh, I replaced the o/s headlamp bulb, too - that was maintenance?

[1] On a mount behind the lhs fairing panel[4]. Sounds reasonably
    simple to get at[5]

[2] What an intimidating object. Six sets of cables emerging from the
switch block. A rough count gives 43 individual wires.

[3] Worked when we pulled into a service station on the way back from
    Montmort-Lucy, didn't when we left. Still don't.

[4] There are several - I'd guess that there are over 20 six-wire
block connectors on the lhs alone. It's madness.

[5] Except it's behind the air vent trunking, which also has to come
out. As does the lower fairing, front cowl, glove box, etc. In true
GL1500 fashion, first part to come off is the seat.

Nothing of mine, this is Nigel's Enfield Bullet cafe racer we're on
about. Are you interested - one owner from new, near new 500cc engine,
very low miles, full cafe racer kit with gorgeous polished alloy fuel
tank, rearsets, clip-ons and Gold Star style exhaust?
