Only one manufacturer went with gear driven cams, and they rob a lot of
potential power and add more moving mass to an already stressed engine.
Fine for production models of sports tourers like VFRs, but not so good
on a highly tuned engine being constantly revved to the limit, unless
it's a hand built, hugely lightened and balanced set-up like the Honda
RC30 had. Trouble is, hand building, lightening and balancing is a very
expensive thing to do. Camchains are much cheaper.

That's pretty interesting, I didn't know it was like that. I suppose
*that's* why the red line on my CB400SF (CBR400 lump) is remarkably low..

Who was the other one? Was it a volume production machine or range?

OK, gear driven *overhead* cams. I'm not counting Ducati bevel drives or
    pushrod engines.

So you want a list of gear driven overhead cam bike engines that excludes
the most famous of all gear driven overhead cam bike engines?

Yes, but I'll bet you have to google for it, so don't make out you're
some sort of clever fucker cos I have you sussed.

I may be sussed but I thought everyone knew how a *real* Ducati drives
    its cams.

I should have known. I used to own a Ducati 160 Monza Junior. The engine
from that sat on my front room windowsill as an ornament for 18 months.

The Older Gentleman came up with the following;:
LOL, when I stopped sidecar racing I had an ex-works Katana 1000 engine sat
in my bathroom for about a year. Had to straddle it to sit on the bog ...

If it isn't the ideal bike for the ideal journey at the ideal time of the
year then I don't want to know what is.

    No. You can't have it.
