It could be something to do with the little hand currently pointing to
Al Qaeda O'clock, it having been just a smidge over 3 months since
those happy chaps declared loudly to the world that European nations
had just 3 months to withdraw from Iraq or they *would* be attacked.

Personally I'm nervous on the train atm, especially since there seem to
be so many new "revenue protection officers" who seem to take more
interest in the behaviour of the passenger and his / her luggage than
in their tickets. Something's brewing IMHO.

There was a big ad campaign a few years ago, aparently if you give blood,
you are 30% less likely to have a heart attack.

Nor mine. I once (1990 or there abouts) touched the corpse of an Aids
victim, though we didn't know that at the time. I was removed from
donating nd they won't let me back. Bloody odd.

    This I know.

One of the things that pisses me off about the medical system and all my
dealings with it in the last 20 years is that every fucking time they
see you they gleefully announce that AIDS is not an issue.

"We have the results of your tests and have decided that if you don't
have heart surgery in the next five minutes you'll never get to wear out
another front tyre. Oh yes and by the way, you haven't got Aids."

There's a shortage of blood supplies at the moment because the
transfussions service has determined that there is a very small risk of
transmission f vCJD via blood transfussion. Accordingly, all regular
donors who have received transfusions themselves in the past 10 (?) years
have been instructed not to donate for the time being. This cuts into the
donor pool rather badly, as a lot of people who receive transfusions go on
    to become donors.

The last session I went to - a few weeks ago - was rather quiet. I got
seen straight away, without having to wait.

In the UK, police on patrol go around in ones and twos. In France (esp
Paris) they seem to hang about in larger groups, like schoolgirls. I put
this down to gregariousness and relaxed supervision. The fact that they're
armed to the teeth is neither here nor there.

If an ordinary member of the public wants to give more convincing evidence
in court, can they swear a bigger, louder, hairier police-spec oath
beforehand? Is the oath sworn on a Bible? Does this mean that the courts
of secular France are swayed by religious posturings?

  12. As I now know. But as I only read the Grauniad on my PC, if it isn't one
of the stories carried on their home page I don't get to read it. I only
found it by being directed to do a search of their archives.

All hell could be happening on page 4 but if it ain't on their home page
it normally passes me by and I get on with the other papers listed under
    NEWS in my favourites list.

Not at all. Masculinity has never been an issue for me. Sexuality in the
    past. All sorted now.

I raised the "coming out" issue as I'm mightily pissed off that gay men
cannot give blood once they have had sex, ever. Just another case of the
    state reinforcing bigotted stereotypes.

They refused to mine any more when I was anaemic; they also wouldn't
take it when one of my children had an infectious disease ... there
are lots of reasons why they won't take blood. My Mum takes Warfarin
for her bad heart - I shouldn't think they'd want hers either as it
    stops clotting.
