not that I've gotten one, or anything. just wondering how the costs of
    speeding tickets are computed.

I think it's ~$700 for the first and over $1000 for the second plus lots
    of points.

Whatever it was, it got worse on 01.01.05. There was specific mention of
I 280 and I 880 in the early morning hours.

  4. Attitude plays a big part...

Not that I'm happy about learning the hard way but back in 01 while riding down
I-80 from Reno I got caught boosting the throttle from 90 to 130 in a sweeper...
nothing sneaky about the hit... no sir... I just failed to notice 2 CHP patrol
Mustangs tagged on my butt... needless to say we all had a nice little
conversation along the side of the road...

They said they waited to hit the "Oh Shit" lights just to see how high I would
take the turn... I also discovered that they not only like bikes... they were
happy to be transferring over to the CHP motorcycle division... Since a RC is
better suited for the track than public highways... the officers cautioned...
they were not going to write me for the full 130... because that would cost me
my license... I thanked them both for citing me for only 100 mph...

I made the point to wear my leather suit for the judge but the judge had gone
fishing and placed in charge a public defender lawyer... this lawyer stated
frankly "let's get on with it and if you dispense with the BS I'll get you out
    of here with the minimums"...

OK... during my turn to stand tall I was asked the big question... "Did I go 100
    mph"

"Yes sir" I affirmed... "on a motorcycle good for 90 in first gear, I probably
    exceeded 100 by 6th gear."

He cracked a smile and struck the gavel... "Wonderful... now pay the court
    $200.00"

Sir... do you take credit cards???

It depends on what they write you for. They could write you for
speeding, or for reckless, or (depending on the circumstances) even
speed contest. The last two will cost you significantly more than just a
    100+ speeding ticket.
