I want a bike eventually but I think I may by a scooter 50cc with my car
license and give it a go first?
    Thanks...

If' you're in NSW .. do the L's course and try a scooter.. ?
I've ridden one and to be honest it was freakier than a 'real' bike.

    time.

My brother did that, and within a month had bought a bike. Just go and
take a couple of lessons with an instructor if you want to give it a go.

Sometimes "shorter" and "quicker" isn't actually "better", paulh.

My daughter's got a Suzuki TU250x for sale for ~ $1800-ish if you want a
    real bike.

It'll be freaky. Those things barely hit 60.

What sort of riding are you planning to do?

A 50 in anything but seriously jammed city traffic or very light country
town traffic will scare the daylight out of you and not be that much fun.
If you want to experience life on 2 wheels at that speed spend the grand
on a good flat bar road bicycle (rather than a pseudo mountain bike)
and have a similar experience while getting fit.

Find what the options are for training in your state. If you can do a
course without having to have your own bike then do that. You'll get
an idea if it is for you.

If you want it for the work hack then a 150cc scooter's a good choice
unless you have a lot of 80kmh+ roads. You can pick one up with luggage
    and warranty quite cheaply.

Actually the yellow one I got as a loaner was scary to ride as the
speedo *said* 60 .. but let's just say the speed warning light on the
dash came on at 46 .. and the only way it passed 49 was downhill. I
weigh 55kg so it's not like I was overloading it. :)

The Honda Today fires up it's speed warning at 35, tops out at 58.
The Piaggio Zip doesn't have one but tops out at 78....eventually.

I get to figure this out for my JOB!

    Why?!!?
You were mostly-likely using two-wheels as your primary form of transport
BEFORE you started driving so why let all that skill and experience just
    wither?
Looks like a stupid idea to me.

I was playing in the traffic on 2 wheels from the age of 12, why stop and
get all those bad "Cager" habits. Alternatively make it compulsory for all
drivers to ride motorcycle for the first 2 years, the really stupid ones
will be removed from the gene pool, a great result all round really.
