And you would be breaking the law riding in it because your bike has an
    engine.

My son, his wife, and my daughter use it that way. Neither I or my wife do.
I blame some bloody English teacher.

When you're getting either of the last two, it's best not to complain about
    the spelling.

Betty, people, including adults, learn by peer pressure. They become
compliant to the group. The concept that putting one adult in a room with 30
children for twelve years will result in 31 adults is absolutely bizzare.

My personal favorite is the current trend by journo's to use PLEADED,
as in "PLEADED Guilty" I thought that you entered a PLEA of whatever,
and there for had PLEAD not PLEADED.

I would have thought that Journo's shoud be good at english and
demonstrate learning above a 3rd grade level.

Not all. Some saw the error of their ways, left journalism to become
computer programmers and then became dope freaks as well.

    Silly boy!

There's a reason journalists report the things that other people do,
rather than do useful things themselves.

Yep, that's right. Coz we can't bloody do anything else... (what they don't
tell you is that it's nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with
    TIME!!!).....

I always used to think that being an English teacher would be a perfect
career for a budding writer.... WRONG! When you teach, every creative urge
is sucked right out of you and channelled into your teaching, which can
sometimes be very rewarding, but is more often shattering... and besides,
you never have any spare time to write coz you're too bloody busy marking or
writing lesson plans or blah blah blah!!!

    betty, contented ex-teacher,
    off to the coast for
    a weekend of pounding
    away at the laptop...

Yeah, there is that... although the petty politicking that went on in
my last school was gobsmackingly rampant.
How does that saying go? Growing old is inevitable; growing up is
    optional...

It was my lifelong dream to be a teacher too.... but I like my
weekends far more now that I'm away from it :)
    <rolling eyes> sheesh, blokes!!!

Reminds me of an incident quite a few years back when a carload of louts
came up behind me on high beam & sat right on my tail as I was being
cautious & briefly observing the 80 posted limit on a long uphill section of
    the old Pacific Hway.
Pulled over to let them pass which they did, giving me the finger & a few
    verbal comments in the process.
I then sat behind them & gave them a taste of high beam upon which they
slowed to around 40K & commenced tossing empty cans back at me.
Next thing one idiot is hanging out of the back window with a paint spray
can & emptied it in my direction. What he didnt realize in the dark &
blinded by my light is that the drag created by their vehicle was drawing
the paint all over the rear of their car.
As none of it was reaching me, I patiently waited at a discrete distance
until he had emptied his can then opened the throttle & blasted past into
    the distance.
Would love to have seen the result of the paint job & their faces next
    morning, lol.

Oy, you leave my oeuvres out of this <snigger>

Seriously though - haven't had the motivation for ages now - it's nice to
feel that urge returning! My problem this weekend will be forcing myself to
focus on just one thing, coz I have so many ideas buzzing about in my head,
and so many projects I want to get stuck into!

Finished the first draft of a children's book - wheeeeeeeee ! And
expanded my list of Stuff To Write threefold. Riding has been a way of
staying sort of sane over the past year and a half - and now it's
giving me plenty of time alone with my ideas!

Narooma was lovely - I went there via the Clyde and Batemans Bay
yesterday, and came back via Brown Mountain (which I like far more
than the Clyde). Met a lovely biker couple from Eden while I was
having a coffee at the Bemboka pie shop.

I'd hoped for 2 nights away, but we're a bit busy at work, so I wasn't
allowed a flex day tomorrow, dammit.... the minimum time away for
maximum creative energy is 2 nights..... so really looking forward to
a proper "writer's retreat" some time in the near future.
