What was the first bike you *really* wanted?

I liked the look of those too... and when you're 14 that's all that
    matters!

In MCN the other week ISTR reading an article saying that a successor
    was being produced (or planned).

Macie waffled on in a quite bewildering manner to produce...
    KMX 125.

At the moment it's an XJR1300 in black.

pity I'm crap at riding the things.

<G> It got me started in the welding field. Never knew it was porous
    though.

TBH, For the frame work that I did on my 550/4, I got someone else to
do the welding, as I didn't want it to fall apart if I was riding the
    bike.

Erm... NS400R. I've had 2. And regretted selling both of 'em.......

Now if they'd actually made a RGV500 I'd have bought it, but the RG square 4
    never did it for me....

I'll agree on the economy bit - both mine did around 20mpg on average[1]
but, for 2-strokes, I found them bloody reliable as long as they were well
maintained and never had a gearbox problem.

They have to be looked at in context along with their contemporaries, the
Gamma 5, RD500 and, to a lesser extent, the 350 PowerValve. When you do
that they *do*, IMHO, stand out as reliable - factory balanced pistons and
cranks and stuff weren't the norm for the Yamahas and Suzukis but were for
the Honda. But not economical on fuel still.....

    Dave

    [1] I once got over 45mpg on a long motorway stint - I pulled into a service
station after around 100 miles of steady 85-90mph *knowing* I'd need to fill
up and found that I still had half a tankfull of fuel left. But I wouldn't
do it again - I was holding it at around 8-9000prm in 3rd/4th (can't
remember) on a small throttle opening which probably was so lean I would've
seized it if I'd carried on much further...

All things considered, it's probably the only reason to move to
    mid-south Wales ;-)

But seriously, it's just one consideration. The biggest factor in doing
this is clearing the mortgage. Which is always a good thing to do.
Heh. Been there, done that, now I'd prefer a tin box wih heater and
    radio in the winter.
    Heh..... <opens popcorn>

    <g> I think himself wouldn't mind a V-Max.

Hey Pip, remember Steve K? He had a V-Max didn't he? What ever happened to
    him, did you hear owt?

    <late-to-the-party-mode>

The Kwak KR1S caught my eye in the late 80's but <confession> whilst still
living at home wiv me folks </c> it wasn't likely to happen even if I'd
been able to afford it, or indeed, insure and ride it...

Much later, work and moving away from the folks intervened and there was a
bit of a lull for five or six years when a mate of mine lost both his legs
in an accident involving a Gixxer 1100 and the back of an articulated
    lorry; kinda put me off...

Then Honda's FireBlade in the Urban Tiger colour-scheme really rang my
    bell circa 1994/5.

I saw but never really took much notice of bikes prior to that, but the
'Blade and all the making-of-a-legend stuff that came along with it was
the one that really made me say "Wow! I /want/ one of those!"

Didn't happen for another three years, mind and then it was for a VFR. The
rest, as they say is 'istory.

I had a copy of that article pinned to my bedroom wall I'm sure! and my mate
was running around on a Z400. Spooky.

I recall it was rated better than the original wobbly CBX1000 at the time.

I saw one the other week in Westerham - absolutely immaculate. Still very
impressive when you see them on the road.

Be a nightmare to keep one running now I expect.
*Could I have 12 valves and a gasket set for my 1980 Sei please*

I've seen a CBX1000 engine with the top end stripped. The valves etc. belong
in a Modelmakers shop. I remember Superbike went on to test the Prolink
version but I do not recall if the handling improved much.
