What was the first bike you *really* wanted?

    Just out of curiosity, like.

What was the first bike that you vividly lusted after? Maybe it was
the one that set you off with bikes, or possibly a model that you
dreamed of, but never managed to get.

FWIW, mine was a Honda NS400R, with an RGV500 a close second. Never
    got either though.

    got one.

  3. I think mine was the FZR1000 EXUP, which I also have never owned or even
ridden. However when the YZF750 came out, that got my attention, and I've
owned 2 and still ride one now.

    TS185C. :)

The next one was the GPz900R, but I could only afford the 750.

Which wasn't quite as bad as it sounds.

Sadly enough mine was an original VFR750F, which I thought was a beautiful
looking bike. Actually I still do think it was beautiful.

At the time I wasn't at all impressed with the VFR750R, which shows that
then, as now, I knew fucking nothing.

Kawasaki H2B. Badly wanted one from the age of about 17, never had the
    money for one.

Yamaha RD250. Kids at school had them (generally on HP) I badly wanted
one from about 15. Never had one. Ended up with an RD350B though which
had 250 badges on the sidepanels sometimes.

I remember being *very* impressed with the first Z900 I ever saw. It
was just *something* else, but I never thought I'd be able to have
one. That is, by the time I had the money, they wouldn't be around
    any more.

The first bike I really had an aching for, or one like it, was Steve
Burns' first or second "special". I will have been a Suzuki
1000/1100cc, in a shiny Spondon chassis with flat bars. It was on a
poster given away by one of the Comics. It was on my bedroom way for
ages. This'll be before Steve started doing turbos and defo before
his head-on smash with his mate at some track or other.

Closest I managed to date is putting flat bars on every big Suzuki
    I've owned.

    There's always next year though...

It's probably that for me or the ZX-7R, or possibly the blade. I can't
remember for certain though - it wass just a love for anything two-
    wheeled.

I'd recently passed my test and had a 250 Superdream. I was walking past
Hartgates in Mitcham and they had a very shiny unfaired Honda CB900F and I
was smitten. I spent all of two minutes looking over it and then bought it.

I had that for several years, before much the same thing happened with a
    white VFR750F.

In 1975 (think) Benelli launched the Sei. Lloyds in Hamilton had one in and
it was incredible. Like all the best iconic obsessions I've never had
practical experience. BMW launched the R100RS a few yeas later and my
attention was diverted. Q - long and winding road.

IIRC Benelli also did a 250cc - 4cyl which was some mythical never seen
beast occasionally glimpsed in esoteric bike mags.
