Not exactly a mod, but the big team efforts all blueprint the engines,
    don't they?

The lack of digits in the vicinity of the front brake lever? ;-)

Probably. The TT doesn't really have much in the way of "big teams"
    now, apart from TAS Suzuki.

I know in British Supersport, many of the engine builder will buy,
say, 20 conrods, weigh them all, and build the motor with the most
    closely matched set.

Bah! Everyone knows you can lock the front just by weighting the pegs.

No, "blueprinted" *is* production spec! It just means that every
component is bang on the money for the production spec, rather than
    having the normal manufacturing tolerances.

But you can see from his feet that he's not doing so - in fact he's
using the foot brake pedal, which has been connected up to a linked
system, Honda stylee, to provoke this very argument.

Yes, nothing can be done in the way of modification to the original spec
    - no gasflowing, no cams, no pistons, nothing. BUT... you are allowed to
rebuild the engine using production components that would give you the
best possible engine that would result if every part was to the design.

    That's blueprinting.

You've heard of Monday morning / Friday afternoon cars and bikes?

    That's blueprinting in reverse.

  15. Yes. Anything to make it safe. The engine remains basically standard though.

It's certainly allowed in every proddy class I've heard of (which
doesn't mean there might be some where it's not). It's a good thing
because it means on a particular model there shouldn't be all that much
difference between bikes as far as power output goes. Thus you avoid the
sheer luck factor in having an engine which might be good, might be
crap. If it's bp'd you know it's good.

It's bad in a way because it can cost a lot to do and the teams with the
most money will be able afford it while the lone entrant can't.

And anyway, the rules have to allow it; what happens if your engine
grenades? You rebuild it with allowed parts - no difference there from
    blueprinting.

The problem would be finding a reasonable and workable way to make having an
engine precisely to manufacturer's spec illegal. And some way of easily
    discovering such exactitude.
