What to expect?

  1. A mate of mine, rather stupidly, got caught at 120mph on Sunday by the local
plods spangly new VASCAR. The funniest bit is (if you can call it funny) the
bloke he was out with thought it was someone having a go in a car and came
tearing up behind flashing the car out of the way - he's getting done for
    between 104 & 107mph.

Anybody got any clues as to what he can expect as a punishment (apart from a
ban and a fine). Is prison likely in light of recent bad press etc?

What type of road, what speed limit, was it busy, what were the
road conditions at the time, etc., etc..

  3. I believe it was sunny and dry on a quiet dual carriageway sometime in the
afternoon. There were three of them but only two got caught. The highest was
clocked going faster at times but they averaged it at 120.

I got 3 points for doing the ton on a motorway and 3 points for doing
nearly the ton on the hard shoulder. If it wasn't for the fact I had six
points already I'd still be out there I reckon. A total of £255 fine
    including costs wasn't bad either.

Just say yes and nod a lot.

Why do you have an X-face of Quentin Tarantino in your posts?

That's a picture of me: I'm better looking than Quentin, but he's

  11. Was type of road was it on?

I got caught (also by VASCAR) at 124mph in a 70 (dual carriageway)
also on a Sunday and also I was with other bikes. In court the police
statement was put in a way to make it sound like we were all racing. I
got a 3 month ban and 250 quid fine. That, however, was about 8 years
ago[1] so may not be representative of current punishments.

The offence of exceeding the speed limit does not carry the penalty of
imprisonment. Those available include a fine, points on licence, a ban.

ITYF that the cases highlighted by recent publicity involved additional
offences such as causing death by dangerous driving or driving whilst
    banned.

112 on an NSL dual carriageway, racing with another bike, I got 3pts £60
and a chat about how great Guzzis are.

    I've mentioned this before, haven't I...?

Sorry[1] to jump in here chaps, but this has been done to death
    before, hasn't it.

It is usual for JP to come along eventually and say that no-one
has ever been sent down for "just speeding".

If that is actually what they were convicted of, then they have cast iron
    grounds for an appeal.

"exceeding the speed limit *AND* driving in a manner that could be
dangerous." Two seperate things. You could drive through a high street with
a blindfold on and not exceed the speed limit. It would be dangerous driving
    however.

I don't know what our two heros did but it was probably dodgy overtaking a
