.... or he's got all the parts already.

I can't see how he can do a 'full restore' in the time he states. As
Timo says, he might have the parts already, but even so, that's a hell
of a speed, and it would suggest to me that corners are being cut
    somewhere.

I'd prefer to buy a really nice, clean Kettle for about half that
price and work from there, as a sort of rolling restoration, the way I
did it with the 400 Four.

AOL. Mind you, if he's got the bits already and he's doing this full
time, it's still possible. But given the time a good paint job takes,
    it's still a hell of a speed.
It's the best thing to do IMHO, but even then you're likely to end up
with a partially dismantled bike at some point. But the financial pain
is not quite as big as if you have to take the hit in one go, even
though it's likely to work out as expensive or even more expensive this
    way.

I'd like to know what he does with the exhaust systems. New ones are
rocking horse poo, and rechroming a GT750 set properly will set you
back close to a grand (chromers *hate* two-stroke systems because a
huge amount of work has to go into sealing the pipes properly, as
leaking ShitOldStrokerOil will contaminate a whole chroming tank).

He might have had access to a batch of mudguards - the rear one in the
pic looks brand new. Wheels are fairly simply rebuilt. Paint: well, he
says he can paint them up, so maybe he's a good sprayer. What about
    seats?

But then you've got the engine work. I'd like to know if that price
includes a total strip and rebuild with all new parts, because I can
see an engine restoration easily costing a grand in parts, never mind
labour. Or is he just giving them a vapour blast and a polish, and
maybe a new set of rings?

That said, his prices start at £6k, so maybe for a proper job you're
looking at £7-8k, which is the sort of price I'd expect for a thorough
    restoration.

His recent feedback is private, insofar as you can't see what he's
sold, which is a bit of a warning sign.

But - and that's the big but - that's likely to *buy* you a thoroughly
restored one. Which in most cases means that the actual restoration was
    far more expensive.
That as well. Hadn't even noticed.

  8. Well, there's a surprise, after the scepticism shown in this thread.

Perhaps because he's asking people to buy something that he hasn't
    actually got for sale yet?

We could really wind him up by reporting the auction for the use of
offensive language - "gash", "nipples" etc.

I suppose it's perfectly feasible the bloke is above board - he has say,
three old shiteheaps and a pile of spares he's accumulated over the
years when they were worth **** all. Suddenly the realisation hits him
that one of those in rebuilt and v.clean condition is worth a lot more
than a mouldering pile of shite in his garage. All it's cost him is his
    time.

  12. He's still asking someone to pay for something that isn't actually built
    yet.
