I don't even pretend any more, these days I sit in an office.

By that non sequitur, you demonstate perfectly the point I was making.

    :)

I did not think that my contribution was "illustrious", but I do
consider that buyers of a Hummer, even the scaled-down civilian version,
    are serious wankers.

Just as a BTW comment, which, as far as I know, hasn't been asked before,
but, what rank were you when you got shipped out to Vietnam?

Please note, I really, seriously, don't actually care, but it is a
question which hasn't actually been asked before (ASAIK) and could
account for some of the animosities which seem to have surfaced visa vie
    miitairy service.

Johno was involved in developing the blueprints for the wheel
Johno assisted Moses in carrying down the 15 commandments off Mount
Sinai, unfortunately he dropped one of the tablets so we were left with
    10 commandments.
Johno was a stowaway on Noah's ark.
    Johno is actually fossilised.

I was clearly conceived well after VE day, and since I was conceived
(and born) in Austria, I guess that's the one that counts.
    So, nyerrrr...:)

I have it on good authority that sensible people are now making pie
floaters with baked beans and not
    with peas.

    I'd eat one of those!

    Sure :)

Probably understandable. It's from the RAE Officer's Mess drinking
song that in turn was adapted from the Royal Engineers' official
drinking song. It's titled "Hurrah for the CRE" (google it)with racist
overtones included. The Australian version was also a bit homosexual,
but only in an "amusing and entertaining" context.
And yes, I too am an ex sapper, but of the musical kind.

  13. Okay, thanks for that George, I didn't know
as I said, I was a sapper and therefore, not allowed into the Officer's Mess
except to clean up their mess

In Funny Farm, we used to have all sorts of fun with RAE 'splinter
teams'. They didn't like being at the sharp end at all. We thought
it quite amusing. I reckon we'd have very quickly got the measure of
young Frosty and arranged some special "entertainment" for him... ;-)

    (One can but dream...)

    Yeah
I'd just been Corps transferred from Infantry when the RAE unit I was
in was made to live "under canvas" at Nelson's Bay for a week.
Actually, the digs were quite comfy with real beds and lockers, wood
floors etc, but I can till hear the howls of pain when my choco
colleagues saw the situation. Made me ashamed to wear the blue-black
    lanyard, it did.

You seem like a decent chap so you would not have attracted much
attention, but Frosty, I suspect, we would have found quite amusing...

He has a certain je ne sais quoi, non? ;-)
