What should I pay for this bike?

    Hello,

I am a very new rider,
    Passed my CBT today (hurrah!)

A friend of a friend has a W Reg Honda Rebel 125cc for sale,
I have not yet seen it,
But it is supposed to be in mint condition,
One lady owner, 3,000 miles on the clock,
Apparently she wants £1900 for it,
Which I think is a bit steep,
Looking on Autotrader, I think I can get a better deal from a bike shop,

    Also I like the 125 Yamaha Virago's,
    I have £1500 to spend,
I can't find an online site that gives prices/info on 2nd hand bikes,
    Like Parkers does on cars,
    I know nothing about bikes,
Except, just about how to ride 'em,
    I live in Essex,
Any comments or suggestions gratefully received!

    thanks
    lisa

Learn how to write a sentence.

Then go and do your research using all sources of reference available:
the auto/biketrader website for example - or the price listings pages
in the back of Bike magazine.

It is a buyer's market at this time of year and you have your limit.
Don't go above it, especially considering that you'll want to move on
from a 125 as soon as it gets too slow for you - which won't take
    long.

Excellent and welcome to the bottom of the learning curve.
    Reckon you are right.
Trouble is these little cruiser thingies can command unrealistically
    high prices.

You can buy a great deal of plain and simple cg125 for this kind of
money and still have some to spend on other gear, like insurance.

It just gets better and better and better.

Cane is flogging a Yamaha SR125 of about the same age for 800 quid. More
miles on the clock but over a grand cheaper and he's in Essex. Could be
    worth a look.

I've ridden one of these - it was very slow but also sort of fun to
ride, insofar as it made you feel like a fool due to the silly riding
    position.
    nearly new, then.
    too much.
    Avoid Hatfield Heath.

Wise words indeed. Unless you'd like to pick up a tidy SR125 for £800 ;)

Sorry.. it's a reaction to the sport. What I meant to post was more - "Pip,
**** off you pedantic, grumpy old fart!"

Bout a grand if she looks in my direction, the CG I am using will be
available as soon as I locate a replacement Virago.

Its not in the best looking conditions, its been used (30,000+miles)
    but its reliable.
