    No, don't do this.

Maybe, not a bad bike actually.
    Yes.

Are you sure that's a good idea?

You've had lots of comments on your various possibles, plus one or two
others, many of which are based on people's own preferences rather
than their perception of yours. Of course, that's probably what you
wanted, but do make sure you step back and make your own choice,
preferably test riding all the candidates beforehand.

FWIW I'd also rate the Triumphs, including the speed trip, and the TDM
    - I had an 850 when they were first out and would certainly recommend
    them for the taller rider.

As for repairing/replacing, I reckon you'd be looking at somewhere
between your estimate and TOG's to do up the monster, but it sounds
more like you'd be better off trading up to something a bit different.

Rarely, but it's fun watching from a safe distance. ;P
Absolutley. Some of the things that have been suggested won;t even
make the short list. They're just not what I see in my bike as it
wre. Some others might get a look in if the initial rides don't go as
    expected, or they are convenient.
    And another.
    Thanks for the input.

About right ... but depending on which units you have
already they may be serviceable rather than needing
replacement. The 12K service is going to be the thick
end of 400 sheets and a pair of tyres around 150 I reckon.

Have a word with the TecMoto guys as although they're
mainly the Hypersports end, they'll work on the bike
    just the same. http://www.tecmoto.co.uk/
Very nice chaps and excellent workshop and mechanics.
How about a year-old M900? Buying second hand usually
means someone else has paid out for all the goodies and
you've still got a year's warranty left. Worth considering.

Bear fascinated us all by saying...
What about the TDM900, does this come in for the same criticism?
