what should I buy

  1. hello

this is most likely a really common question but I am looking for a bit
of advice. I am trading in the dirt bikes for a road bike but have no
    idea what to buy?

The reason I am going to a road bike is the old xr 250 trail bike that
I have riden every where for the last twenty years has finally died..
    .......... and I am deverstated.

    Today I looked at a cbr 600 r and a yzr 600 and a kawasaki (I really
liked the kawasaki but it was a bit old)

I would rather buy new because its tax time and I can salary sacrifice.

any comments? I am 170 cm tall around 70 kilos. I have been in the
army so I am pretty fit up top and down below.

    give us some comments

I dunno what 170cm is in gallons but it doesn't sound very tall.
The natural choice for the less-legged is a cruiser but you sound like you
want a supersports so I reckon that the most important factor is gonna' be
the size rather than which brand-name is on the tank.
Get thee to the bike-shops (or to the local biker cafe).

  8. thanks for your comments clem
it least yours made some sense, unlike the remarks from pisshead pete
which i don't appreciate. maybe we need to buy pete a pillow and a
towel so when he takes it up the arse he has something to bite on.

170 cm is five seven in the old terms, looked at the cruisers but
nothing takes my fancy. riden a friends harley - do not like at all.
have been into three bike shops today all were really helpful, all were
happy to let me ride. looks like another trip to melbourne!

It must all be relative, Clem.... there I was thinking "Ooh, she's TALL!" I
think that's about 5'7" in old money....

I sat on a mate's CBR600 and had no probs putting my feet on the ground, and
    I'm just a widget at 160cm (that's 5'3"), so I don't reckon Angela would
have any probs with the height of one of those.

I have a friend who's around 5'8" who's questioning the wisdom of having
    bought a BMW GS1150 (or something...I think) coz she's on tippy-toes when
she puts her feet down, and that makes her a bit nervous, even though she's
    been riding for years....

Next time you're in a bikeshop, pay more attention to what it says down
the side of the bikes you're trying out for size. When you say you
looked at a CBR600R, we can't tell whether that's a typo of Honda
CBR600F, which is a cuddly little sports-tourish number, or a typo of
    CBR600RR, which is an all-out race-replica.

There's never been a YZR600; are you referring to the YZF R6, Yamaha's
supersport model for the past seven years (there have been five distinct
models), or the YZF600, which preceded it and which reaches back to 1994?

The Kawasaki which was a bit old could be a ZZ-R600, which is a
chunky-shaped sports-tourer, or an early ZX-6R, which is a sportsbike.

    Which were they?

If you want a meaningful answer, you need to ask a meaningful question.

What do you want in a bike?
That's big enough to handle anything.

We take it in turns; I was the offensive one when Betty dropped in!
OK I guess 5' 7" ain't that short (although women are differently
    dimensioned to blokes).

Make sure you do have a look around at the shops (and in the magazines). A
less-mainstream bike like a Ducati Monster or Suzuki SV650 may be the
    perfect fit!
    Good luck,
    Clem

Yeah; I shoulda' done the maths before I spoke. (But why end a tradition?)
I'm up nearer 190 cenotaphs and weigh far more than 120 kilopascals and I
still found my GS1100 an awkward proposition occasionally!

But then; I did tend to load it up a bit......

nice one, poo-head <grin>... we were thinking 'platform boots' to
accessorise with all her protective gear, rather than stilettos. You are a
    very bad man.
