What is the concept of the Rebate systems?
Why do retailers mess with the rebate deals? How do they come out?
    It's a mystery to me.
    What is ya'lls opinions?
I noticed yesterday, even the local Dollar store had rebates on a coupla
ot their dollar items. (rebate of .50 on an item)
Who they hail' would mess with that measly amount? (chuckle)
I bought something on sale at a store, around Christmas, and there was a
$5 rebate slip, in the package, when I opened the damn thang, shoot, I
threw it in the trash. (chuckle)
My Honey bought a new computer from OfficeDepot, and in order to get the
sale price on it, she has to mail in several hundred dollars of rebates.
    She did it.
It took several hours of carefully following the steps to get it right.
She mailed off 6 rebates, to six different addrresses.
Not Me, I despise them rebates.
    You?

The rebate allows a retailer to advertise an item at a low price, while
the actual monies collected are much more. Usually the rebate comes
from the manufacturer, who doesn't actually have to cover the whole
amount because of the percentage of buyers who don't bother sending it
    in.

I like the rebate concept. Since I send them in, it allows me to
benefit from the losses of those who don't.

Of course there is some finite risk (about 10% in my experience) that
you won't get your rebate despite having done everything correctly.
For that reason, I'm willing to pay some premium (varies) to make a
    rebate-free purchase.
