What is it about Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) drivers??

Daring to venture down New South Head Road last night (after a Harry
Pie Run) I knew this would be an ideal training mission for my
    accompanying post-novice riders.

Edgecliff: Red traffic lights.. car stopped a full 2 lengths back
from the line and the sensors...duh!

Down Double Bay hill...Mercedes being "carefully driven" over two
lanes, plus for safety the oncoming lane.

Gave the merc-empowered princess a wide berth through Double Bay
    shops.

Rose Bay bends....this time a beaten up commodore station wagon came
to the conclusion that proceeding down the Bus Stop lane was a short
sighted strategy, given abrupt end. Managed to avert their thought
processes of hastily rejoining the more conventional lanes to her
    right.

Reports later from entourage that said driver then decided that right
hand lane was also not appealing.... to Commodore princess' credit she
managed a belated headcheck to confirm that veering into a lane
occupied by a motorcycle was a normal part of daily driving experience
    for the Double Bay set.

It may well be years before I ever venture that way again.

And besides...the road surface from Rose Bay to Vaucluse is
appalling..oh but that's NSW for you.

How do you know that your experiences are not a statistical anomaly? Are
drivers elsewhere any better? Did it have something to do with the time at
    which you were riding?

The experiences might be an anomaly, but as for the road surface; even if
the OP gives it years, it's not likely to be any different....

Heh. On my way home tonight on the bicycle, I composed a letter to
the local editor, which I'm sure will be published given the dearth of
quality material they otherwise receive, and the fact that the editor
is a fellow cyclist and has published me before :)

I was going to CC it to the local council, but then I realised they
hadn't yet joined the 19th century and thus wouldn't accept my email.
Gah, might have to go to a council meeting.

Coz up until I entered the Zone, I had no issues with dopey
driving...the usual run of substandard Sydney drivers but not so
    blatantly bad.

Dissect to your heart'c content, not playing the game..although you
haven't explored the possibility that the filling in the Harry Pie (a
Tiger pie, mushy peas etc) may have impaired my judgement.

LOL. I don't think there is any learning involved.

I do think the suburb's longstanding nickname of 'Double Park' is quite
    well deserved though.
