Got caught with about $200,000 strapped to his body at JFK, laundering
    Ah!
    That brought some memories back!
    Wiiliams and the dodgy girlfriends!!!

I'll go and have a google and see what I can find.

  2. I've got an archive dating back to issue two.

Missing no more than half a dozen issues since then, so some 33
    years.....

    I haven't lost my mind, it's
backed up to a floppy disc
    that's around here somewhere.

The first copy of Bike Magazine I read had a 250 shoot out featuring the
RD, GT, CB and Benelli. I think I was about 11 or 12. It certainly had
an influence on me, the RD won the test :)

  5. Colin Mayo edited Motor Cycle Dealer, way back in the 1980s.

So a year older than me. My first bike (not counting the FS1E - it's a
moped) was an RD200DX. I held on for a month after my 17th birthday (Feb
'76) to get the brand new model. So new that the engine number was 27.

I had the whole set from issue 16 until about 1985 but gave the whole lot
away except for one or two with special memories. Likewise I had all the
issues of Motorcylce Mechancis for a similar period.

  9. And before that he edited Motorcycle Mechanics (which later mutated
    into "Performance Bikes").

  13. One of the first issues of "Mechanics" I purchased (1977?) featured a
group test with Mayo, Bob Goddard (who went on to edit a wine magazine,
I believe) and the late John Robinson making a winter trip to the South
of France on, IIRC, a Z900 (to which clip-on bars and a Rickman
    top-half fairing had been added), a Guzzi 750 S3 and a BMW R 90S. Funny
how articles like that remain embedded in the memory.

    Such is life. I'll survive.

I suspect the guy I gave them to still has them (although minus the few I
    kept).

RD200DX : Thasss the one wiv the disk brake upa front innit?
    IIRC Its why I didn't go RD200 when I bought the Honda - the CB200 had a
(cable operated) disk on the front.
It were fooking shite!!! I wish I'd bought the RD.

Yeah. I remember that for the same reason. First "shock" I had about people
    getting killed riding bikes.
Then about two months later it got a bit too real - the first time I lost
one of my mates in a bike crash.
I've got tears in my eyes writing that.......

    Nuff said

Bike Dec 75: In Search Of Ultimates. Bill Haylock and Mike Nicks running an
R90S against an S3. Before that article, I didn't know Moto Guzzi existed.
Afterwards, I /needed/ a big Guzzi. Failing to get one over the intervening
30 years simply shows how crap and useless I am.
