What goes ping ... ping ... ping and smells like burning

Hi all,

The answer of course is my hard disk doing a kamikaze number! Given that
the old box is 6 years old, I have substantially upgraded, and am
keeping a list of all the fscking software I used to have a need to
install again.

Fortunately, I have backups of most of my data ... most of course ...

Few yrs ago I lost a 40gig with porn and 80 gig of MP3's in one
session...

Luckily last week a dude at work brought in 60 gig of new porn! Still
only back to 5000 MP3s though

Looks like you'll have to split the case....

sometimes you can get an hour or twos worth of life out of a dead hard
drive by putting it in a ziploc bag and sticking it in the freezer for
a while. enough time to transfer vital data to someplace else.

 

.... or give it to my son - he can split the case
