What does a warning for speeding mean?

I got a warning for speeding tonight. I've never been pulled over before
and have a totally clean driving record.

Can anyone tell me what a warning means (in the ACT if that makes a
difference)? Is it a case of a bit of a scare and send me on my way,
nothing officially recorded. Or is it recorded somewhere that I have used
up one chance and won't be so lucky next time?

He didn't seem to write anything down, just checked my licence and probably
    my rego.

I'll need to renew my security clearance soon and I'll need to declare it if
    it is recorded somewhere.

I'd say, you were very lucky you struck a decent cop. I don't think
anything would get recorded. If he gave you nothing written (i.e. no
official, written warning) , then it would be fair to assume that
nothing will be recoded. I think if they're going to put somethin on
your record they have to tell you that that's happened.

But, hey, I'm just the residient village idiot around here. What you
need to do is get all the Ozmoto Legal Geniuses involved in The
World's Longest Thread, at the end of which you'll have so many
conflicting opinions, you'll have to make a complete gig of yourself
on the security clearance form by saying "I received an unffocial
    warning for speeding".

This will so impress ASIO, they will immediately upgrade your status
to the "this guy will report his mother for J-walking" category, which
    is their highest category.

    Good luck...

  5. No, he was lucky he was stopped by a regular patrol car, one not
    equipped with radar.

About 15 years ago I got a warning in Qld and he filled out the whole ticket
but then ticked "warning" instead of (I think) "penalty".
He said it WOULD go on record but that if I didn't get another one in the
next 3 months it would be cleared (otherwise the offence and points would
    count).
It's the only ever time I've seen such a ticket so it may have been a trial

The warning still exists but does not count towards a coppers quota so they
    never use it.

  10. That's the way it works down here in Taswegia. You get warned, but if
you haven't had a pull-up in the last 12 months, it won't count as
points. I does get recorded though. If you then get caught within the
next 12 months, that initial one will be counted as points against
    you.

How it works in the ACT is another thing, but I'd suggest it may be
    similar to here.

  11. I'm coming down there with 3 points left to my name. (yeah - I know -
    technically it's minus 3 points).

Gotta last me until October 2009. What's my chances?

  14. They aren't too harsh down here. We's just a little state. Don't speed
on the midlands highway or around town and you'll be fine.

You forgot a learner legal 250cc naked bike is "built for speed". Said
just after getting out of a 5.7l commode. (deliberate misspell)
