He was. Fortunately his attempt to use the gixxer as a ball in a game
of five-bike bowling failed. But it was a close thing.

1200RT loaner, with full fitted luggage and all the options (hence the
12k, I presume), while his GS is getting 'fixed'.

It seemed to suit him quite well actually. Fair hustled it along, as
well. Had to actually use the gears on the gixxer to pull away from
    him.

Indeed, although once we were in sight of Calais I kind of stopped
worrying about it. Every mile closer to home was a mile less in a
    recovery truck )

We know what I could write here, but I'm not going to.

    <LOL!>

Amazing how the "range to go" doo-dad plummeted when I stuck it on
cruise at 120mph with the screen fully up, and my flip-lid open...

As others have said, it was a R1200RT with all the toys (bar CD-changer)
    on it.

    Whaddya mean, grandpa?
    <G>

To be fair to it, it was a fine motorcycle for that trip. That engine
is really quite a revelation compared to my "old" 1150 and as Ace said,
it means it can be hustled along quite briskly, TYVM.

A couple of times trying to get past Kiran and ogden in the twistier
bits in the Ardennes, I found myself cogging-down one, cracking the
throttle and waiting a mo before the power came in. The 1150 would have
just gone "Oh, righty-ho, off we go! LUNGE!" on the torque.

Plenty of power though, right up to about 120mph when it tails off to
gently roll up to an indicated 140 (managed to hit the limiter in top
chasing Ace)and delivered with a nice, throaty rasp unlike my 1150 which
is more of a flat, asthmatic wheezing. Even gave some nice pops and
    crackles on the overrun!

Brakes are the latest version of their linked, servo-assisted, ABS-
equipped jobs, a newer incarnation of those on my GS/A. Masses of
stopping power but not as sudden as on the 1150.

Wouldn't buy one, mind as it's fugly in ways previously thought
    impossible. And it's a BMW.

Soz I didn't get to see you off yesterday but I was having difficulty
    with my eyelids.

Someone at work said to me "****, mate! You ok? You look knackered!"

    Which was nice.

    FOYRNB.

I haven't currently got any non-hom motorcycle kit that fits which might
    preclude any Kawasaki-related fun, also.

No worries - I was gone by eight anyway. Did you manage the cemetery
    visit on the way back?

I got to the office just after 11 = would have been sooner but got
stuck behind a convoy of at least three long loaders carrying 100ft
long wind generator blades. Whole procession must have been more than
half a mile long, with plod at each end, so I couldn't even filter
    past. The bastards.
I must confess to having a few 'eyes wide shut' moments on Tuesday
    afternoon.

Aye. I split from the pack after Reims where we filled up. I bought
some choccy gauffres (mmm!), a large espresso and a map of Northern
    France.

Found my way to the cemetery, payed my respects, took a couple of
camera-phone snaps and set off again. Re-joined the others at Calais at
    just after 14:30.
    Flippin' eco-friendly roadhogs :)
    Quite.
