    Bike Magazine, 1000's review, APril 2006 :

    Standing 1/4 mile times :
    R1 : 10.70s @ 138.25mph
    ZX10R : 10.85s @ 142.2mph
    Fireblade : 10.85s @ 137.7mph
    GSX-R 1000 : 10.62s @ 139.3mph

So, whilst it's only 0.08 of a second(!), the R1 does not have the
    fastest standing 1/4 mile time.

    While we're here, top gear roll on 40 - 120 :
    R1 : 12.10s
    ZX10R : 11.35s
    Fireblade : 11.99s
    GSX-R 1000 : 9.80s

I don't think you can argue that the GSX-R and 10R have the most
    powerful engines.

Working from home, and actually doing stuff. Took me more than 50
minutes to answer a couple of emails, make a coffee, find the April
    copy of Bike, etc.

The only way to stop that argument would be back-to-back crank dyno
tests. The differences above could be purely due to gear ratios and
aerodynamics, with a bit of weight difference thrown in.

Very true - however the original statement of the R1 having the fastest
1/4 mile would appear to be incorrect, no matter what the actual
    circumstances for it.

Personally I would love any 1000c sports bike so I don't really care
either way, but I know Suzuki lovers (like Monz and I) feel strongly
about ensuring the correct statements are issued (when convenient).

Well the same test does have dyno figures (OK at the wheel, but losses
are going to be pretty similar, I'd have thought. The gixxer generates
more power at all revs than the others, clsoely followed by the 10R,
right up until 10500rpm, where the 10 continues up to 164.9bhp,
leaving the gixxer peaking on 156.6. The blade peaked at 152.2 and the
    R1 at 152.6.

So I think Dan's statement is fairly well justified.

If you want value for money buy last years model 10R (1) but if you
just have to have the better bike and **** the extra cost get a Gixxer
    thou K6.

    (1) It may be a bit too mental for you but have a test ride and see
    for yourself.
