What a waste

Finally got round to clearing out the old greenhouse prior to
demolition. The roof had actually started to cave in, and a various
boxes of SOB parts I thought were reasonably well covered turn out to
have taken aboard rather a lot of rain water.

I's be right in thinking old dellorto bodies, slides and float bowls
with a thick layer of white fluff are beyond hope even with access to an
ultrasonic cleaner I suppose? TBF the are only bog standard, 25mm square
slide ones of 350 Morinis, so no great loss to the world.

Note to self: never, ever, store anything in a greenhouse (othjer than
plants naturally) unless you *know* that you will be retrieving it
    within a few days.

Gentle external clean with a soft wire brush, strip and remove all jets.
brush out inside, gentle application of Dremel brush etc. Blow out with
air. Inspect and replace any rubber parts etc. Should be OK.

OTOH the nice people at www.dellorto.co.uk will sell you a shiny new
replacement for not a lot of cash so is your time worth it ?.

  4. Just got 2 pairs of CB72 carbs back from TSR, not cheap but I thought
    they were beyond hope...

These are just hoarded surplus, of the 'might be useful some day' kind.
They never have, well not except for one float needle, and bits like
that are easily obtained anyway. So off to the tip they will go.

Accompanying them will be a couple of oxo tins full of assorted ancient
BSF, whitworth and cycle thread fasteners. All too rusty now to help the
SO brit bike brigade out. There may be one or two imperial spanners and
sockets still usable I suppose though I can't see me going non-metric
    again now.

Anyone got a use for an 18 inch non-valanced Akront alloy rim (Morini
    rear)?

Tip the steel items into diesel oil and let them soak for a few weeks,
and you'll be surprised how the rust comes off.

    In communiqué <>,
I might do that for the spanners if ICBA. It's like 'Time Team' down
there. One or two items possibly worth passing on, including a new but
surface rusted engine sprocket still bearing the label "Matchless G9
    1953/54".

And then Pete would have a couple of oxo tins of rust-free ancient
BSF, Whitworth and cycle thread fasteners.

Doesn't seem worth the effort to me.

Too late. I'm in to full spring cleaning purge mode. They really were a
solid orange mass. Possibly worth a punt passed off as a Damien Hurst
creation, but if it were done, then 'tis better it were done quickly.
They have gone to the civic amenities site.

I did retain one or two spanners, including one of those slim jobs with
square holes in each end for adjusting the brakes on minis and the like.
Also one or two britool, and other unknown brand chrome vanadium, 3/8
square drive sockets in smallish imperial sizes.

Next problem is what to do with the (surviving) greenhouse glass. I can
keep a few sheets to replace breakages on the aluminium framed
greenhouse that still serves its intended purpose (ultra fresh baby leaf
salad for my lunch today - yum), but what about the rest?

The CA site don't seem to have facilities for plate glass (all cullet is
not equal it seems). Freecycle I suppose.

BTW - anybody got a use for about 100 feet of 10mm three core steel
armoured cable (pond pump supply from the house I moved from 10 years
    ago)?

I got rid of our patio doors by carefully breaking them in half then
taking the pieces down to the tip in the back of the Landy. We decided
it was too dangerous to try to deal with them manually, so they
approached with the dozer bucket and the glass was transferred to the
    correct skip with that.
The thin stuff is good for cloches* and cold frames. Anything much over
    4mm gets too heavy tho.
    Like this?

And it's only in the last few years that I've found a need for metric
    spanners, and proud of it.

    Cloches?

Of course, if you lived anywhere near me, I'd take them off your
    hands... (S. Norfolk)

Oh, and the same goes for the cable - if it's not too difficult getting
    your way, I'd collect.
