What a difference

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Apr 17, 2005.

  1. A visit chez-Pixie this afternoon meant that I ended up have the
PipScanner[1] run over the BlingMobile. A severely underinflated rear
tyre and a fucked[2] front tyre were diagnosed.

So I wobbled down to Flitwick Motorcycles, who had an ME33 of the right
size[3] in stock, and a gap in the workshop schedule. Cool.

The mechanic-monkeys were deeply unimpressed at having to lug the B.M.'s
svelte 400Kg through the shop and into the workshop, but all went well
after only three hernias and a resignation. They put the tyre on, put
quite a lot of air into the rear tyre, pointed out that the front wheel
bearings aren't very well, and told me to **** off. Fairly politely,
    considering.

Well. What a difference! It no longer tries to chuck you out of the
saddle on long sweepers, settling for a slightly erotic swaying motion.
It's actually not a million miles away from relatively safe now, I'd
    say.

    The love affair continues.

[1] Like a tricorder, but more thorough.
[2] Well, not so much fucked, as a bit worn, and as hard as granite.
[3] i.e., not the same size as the Exedra that was on it...

Kewl! Does that mean you're going to be doing that neat
    BRAAAAP-BANG!-BRAAAAAP-BANG!-BRAAAAAAAAP-BANG! thing along the straights
that some of the other teams do?

I know I need to get down to see you, BTW. It's on "The List".

yes, yes, Mr Mu^h^h - in fact, I was pastiching the name of a popular
female beat combo from the 80s (or was it the 90s?).

On the subject of popular music, I stayed up and watched "Top 100
Classic Albums" last night. Moderately entertaining, but ultimately
stupid. I mean, what the **** were Coldplay doing in there? And
having Radiohead as number 1 - really.

I'm currently mentally composing an email to the team list on "how
    does one measure sprocket alignment".

A laser clamped, square, to the rear sprocket [1]. The resulting dot
should be an equaldistance from the edge of the front sprocket as the
laser head is from the rear sprocket.

[1] One of those pointer things mounted on known square block?

"We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It" latterly just Fuzzbox.

I've got "Bostin' Steve Austin" on tape somewhere.

I've got one of those lasers that paints a line along a wall. Maybe we
    could use that?

How big is it? I think it would be best to get the laser head as close
to the sprocket face as possible.

Perhaps we could disassemble a pointer thing and make a self clamping
    mount?
