If Gordon Brown gets topped we get Harriet Harman.

I don't think it's as worrying as when Dan Quayle was VP in merkania
and it's certainly not as bad as the waiter taking charge of here.

  3. Consigned to political oblivion eh? No more than she deserves. The
Champion of the Rights of the Single Parent as she is, provided you
happen to be a female SP that is.

Mind you, I'd still give her one.

Not quite. It looks like he has dropped the position of DPM altogether,
with the PM responsibilities devolving to another member of the Cabinet. HH
will be deputy party leader and party chairman. Sorry, person.
    Indeed.

  11. Not even left handed?

Well left at the top to be more precise but I don't want you feeling any
    more inadequate than necessary.

No, she's not going to be the Deputy PM - she's Deputy Leader of the
    Labour Party.

My money's on Jack Straw on being the DPM.

Bad day for Hazel Blears - she came last in the Deputy election and
then publically sacked by Brown as Party Chair (the role now taken by
    Harmann).

I only caught the tail end of the news on tv and wrongly assumed that
deputy leader meant just that. I wouldn't object to her being deputy
PM or even taking over in a crisis unlike my views on the waiter.
I can't think of anything really bad to say about him and he's always
    seemed reasonably competent.
    Bless.

It's one of the reliable constants of British politics. Each Home Secretary
appals with his illiberalism, then he moves on and we look back lovingly to
him while the next one gets even worse.

I think you are wrong. None of the recent ones has introduced a 3 time loser
    law or capital punishment.

I *did* rather mean "in recent times"! Clearly John Reid is not quite as
draconian as [er] Sir Robert Peel, for example. Look, though, at the
backward progression of those who've held the portfolio since the Tories
took over in 1979. Reid followed Charles Clarke, who followed Blunkett, who
followed Jack Straw. Back to the Tories then, with Michael Howard, Kenneth
Clarke, Kenneth Baker, David Waddington, Douglas Hurd, Leon Brittan and
Willie Whitelaw. Of those, to my imperfect memory, only Hurd and Ken Clarke
didn't seem to be significantly "worse" - more certain, more didactic and
more restrictive - than their predecessor.

They couldn't afford to loose us. Wouldn't that cause them some problems ;o)
I think Poland for one might support us anyway.

Maybe that's because the majority of the electorate don't want either
    of them?

If you really want to live in a country where they have such things
why don't you stop crying and **** off to where you'll be happy?

The majority of the population do though I suspect. Des might argue
differently. The last poll I read was 67% of men and 64% of women in '05.
But I'm deliriously happy, you know that. As for staying, travelling
distance to Son otherwise I'd be following Blaney anon. The only thing that
could make me happier right now would be cutting out both eyes of the fucker
who tried to break into my car and broke the passenger window. Yorkshire is
more pikey than I thought. Then again I love the city of York enough to
    cope.

  20. You want to have a word with Saga or the AA then and get some wrinklies
to move in. Since they have opened the block round the corner from me
we have heard rumours that people have actually seen plod on the streets
round here doing something other than driving through at high speed with
the blues and twos going full blast on their way to the donut shoppe.
Fucking wrinklies, this was a low crime area before they all turned up.
now suddenly plod are "showing and interest" in it.

Any road I digress, today a survey form gets pushed through the door
from plod. Examples of questions it asks are:-

Do you feel the police in your area
1/ Understand the issues that affect your community?

What fucking police in the area? We never see the fucking police in the
area except when they are driving through with the blues and twos at
full blast on the way to the donut shoppe.

2/ Deal with the things that matter most to the people within your
    community?

How can they? The cunts are never seen around here unless they are
    driving through etc....

3/ Can be relied upon to deal with minor crimes.

Hysterical laughter. See 1 and 2 above.

    and so on.

Let this be a lesson to you all, if you suddenly get a surge in AA
membership down your way expect the fucking police to waste good time
and money pushing paper through your letterbox but at least sleep
comfortably at night knowing they actually managed to walk up your
    street once in their careers.
