Westminster Council to charge for bike spaces

It's not insured or taxed :(. Insurance ran out a couple of days before
this new job started and Aunty Carole was quoting me stupid amounts of
moolah to reinsure the chop & the VFR so I couldn't be bothered to
renew, knowing that I wasn't going to use the bike for a while.

Oh, and I need to get the front brake sorted out as I'm doing a nice
nodding dog impression when tugging the lever. So I figured I keep it
off the road for the winter, sort out the stuff that gets on my nerves
and put it back on the road for March.

    Oh

    ..

You really don't get it, do you?

Bikes have already been taken off the market because they don't meet
    current emissions legislation.

New cars are not being taxed by capacity anymore but by CO2 emissions.

How long do you think until similar restrictions apply to new bikes?

Car's 22mpg roughly. Plus it's nine years old so it's depreciated away
pretty much. Wear and tear; no way that's as much as half the cost of
    the fuel.

Driving the car was still cheaper than the train; albeit maybe more than
2/3 of the cost of the train.

I really do get it. If congestion charges are applied to bikes it
    won't affect me so I won't care.
I've never been shocked by the obvious.

I don't see myself riding bikes in 25 years time so I'll stick by my
normal 'live now and worry later' rules tvm.
Paying tax by emissions instead of capacity won't worry me in the
    slightest.

I'm sure it's only about a week ago that I said we wouldn't have bikes
such as we have now in a few years. This doesn't mean that I'll worry
about Ken Livingstone 'taxing' London bikers.

How much interest will it get in the capital if Bedford start charging
£1 per day to park a motorbike? **** all I suspect.

  6. OK, fairy nuff. I'd forgotten you had this bottomless pit of
    ShiteOldMotors.

    Citroen, is it?

God no, it's a BMW 735i. Not really that shite but 'cos of the fuel
consumption relatively cheap (to buy); well cheap when you consider it
cost less than 10% of its price when new.

That'll be the chop. Very expensive.

Give it to me, I can afford to insure it.

Well, it was a try-on quote.
Heff hoff, I can afford to insure it with ebikeinsurance - have to take
out two different policies for the chop and the VFR, with the total
price being fifty quid more than CN's generous offer for the VFR alone.

    Ahh, let me see

Mazda 3, Hyundai Accent, Citroen Xsara, Citroen Despatch Van, Zephyr
and the disembodied remains of a TS50X.

Lots of wheels, not much horsepower about sums it up for me too.

  12. (of dear Ken.)
You think? I've a nasty feeling he'll get in whatever his policies are. He's
got this sort of good old boy persona mixed with world statesman. Makes me
want to heave: he was our MP for years and a total tosser at it.

  15. And me! I love the toll road. It's knocked over an hour off some of my
journeys. It's also fun to drive.

  16. I value my sanity, too. Sitting at bloody Fort Dunlop made me homicidal. And
I reckon the petrol and time saving outweighs the toll by far.

  18. We don't have a Tube station close by, so I'm basing it on busses. It's been
very apparent indeed over the last couple of years - OK, he's been around
longer than that - that the frequency has decreased, and the chances of
getting on the damn things in the morning are also piss poor. Dave's been
using bus to get to the Tube, iyswm. Tube is fine, once you can GET to the
    damn thing.

We've also seen the Mayor's blasted precept increase hugely - while he swans
off to Venezuela. Dear Ken lives very near us - but much closer to a Tube
station. He still somehow ran up a taxi bill of over twenty grand one year.
    Hmph.

  20. I shan't get in to the minority of people who actually vote debate. <grin>
On this occasion? Yeah, he won an election.

But he hasn't always been quite so....can't think of the right word. Do a
Google some time on his history: particularly what he did to Andrew McIntosh
at the GLC and Reg Freeson here in Brent.
