I locked myself out of mine a couple of times over Christmas, but I
    just unzipped the rear "door"......

I have used it twice in the last year when the M6 was literally closed
    near Spaghetti Junction.

Oh, just observing & musing as to when one can use the term and when
    one can't, really.

Really? My impression (ICBW, of course) is that if they've got it,
they'll spend it on whatever they fancy, and there'll be no offset
whatsoever against current taxcation. They'll just invent things to
spend the cash on. This what they *do*. I mean, when did council tax
ever go *down* despite the extra revenue from parking and other new
    taxes?

Yes, fair comment. I should have said: "It penalises the very vehicles
that alleviate their congestion problem and is therefore against their
    anti-congestion policy".
Nope, sorry - that comment indicates that you haven't got an answer to
    that one.

    They're *all* bastards ;-)

    Quite.

It's just that ISTR someone (Rope?) posting a while back and mentioning
that someone was black, whereupon several people jumped on his back for
being "racist" because the description wasn't relevant to the story.

    Or some such thing anyway.

When Rope posts about _anyone_ there's always some sort of slur going
on, so calling someone black would clearly have been a racial slur and
    therefore not acceptable.

Well, that's what the vote is for. Kick out one load that's proved
themseves to be bastards, vote in another bunch that seem to be decent,
realise a few years later that they're just as bad, vote another lot
    in...

I mean, this is *silly* :)

My UKRM sweeping statement detector need re-calibrating again.

To be exact zero. I would never normally use it as I am not going that
far north. On the occasions that I have used it I would have to say the
majority of the other vehicles didn't obviously seem like either of the
two categories you claim exclusively use it.

If there was no alternative motorway route it would be used, as are the
autoroutes in France. The problem with the 'BNRR' is that the tolls are
too high. Reduce them and traffic would increase, possibly enough to
bring the revenue back up. That would lead to more traffic on the toll
road but less on the M6 so the overall effect might be better than it is
    now.

Bad form. I realise that as I was using the BNRR at a time the M6 was
closed this will skew the results somewhat. Having said that I used it a
couple of other times the year before when it was just useful because of
where I was going. I was certainly not a tourist and not just curious
    either.

I do have one major criticism of it. They need to improve the signs at
the toll to make it more clear that some have no attendant. They are
    much clearer in France.

I'm a local. I will always use the M6 Toll in preference to the M6 if
I'm going north of Birmingham at any time near the rush hour. In
practice this means from 7am-10am and 3pm-7pm.

It'll always save at least an hour during those times.
