I had a look. It's has the "Irish Language" air to it, that whole thing
turns me right off in exactly the same way as the Gaelic in Scotland. In
fact Scots and Irish Gaelic are identical AFAIK. What is the fucking
point of it? the world increasingly speaks the language of science,
technology and diplomacy....English. A single global language would stop
a wheen of war and trouble.

I suspect in both countries it's a sad pathetic attempt to say "look I'm
different and special and nothing like them over there and you have to
treat me that way". What it actually says is "I'm a ****" ;o)

The only thing sadder is the Ulster Scots language bollocks.

  2. Yep. The scratch, bang, twiddle and thump players can keep it.

True, Cork town is OK, Turners Cross, but the St Patricks Hill is a no
    no at any time.

Dublin is OKish, I lived in Upper Gardener St, which is supposed to be
rough, even the taxi drivers wouldn't go there late at night but I
didn't see any trouble. Around the train station at night is a no no.
Moved over to the South Side then near the rugby ground, quite a nice
    area.

Was rather my point really. It's a local embarrassment, on two fronts.

I did hear a folk band in Johnny Fox's who were kinda crossing over to
light rock, that was quite pleasant.

The difference between an Eisteddfod and a yogurt is there is real
    culture in a yogurt.

  12. I quite liked Johnny Foxs but I imagine the faux oirish atmosphere
gets a bit wearing on repeat visits.

Well yes it's got more that way over the years I suppose, but then the
whole of the Republic has drifted that way a bit!!
Still, the crows are predicting the immigrant population will be a
majority by the end of the next decade.

Does anyone have experience of passport control at Holyhead? I want to
bring an African friend staying in Ireland over for a few days but they
have no sort of UK visa. What's the score with this?
