Well, that's me not on TV then.

He could only be recognised because I know what his jacket, bike and
rucksack look like. If you didn't know that he'd just another
anonymous rider because neither his face nor his reg were shown.

It is rather annoying that they never follow the twats in their tarted up
saxo's doing doughnuts in shop carparks with crowds of teeny onlookers.

It's not a recent law, it's a law that's being quoted more often as
more people are becoming aware of it, yet in most cases (this being
    one them) it's not relevant.

Certainly you need a release signed by the subject (or guardian) if
you're going to sell a photo of them, but you don't need a release for
e.g. publishing a picture in a newspaper (according to a Picture
Editor I spoke to recently on this very matter). Paparrazzi's wouldn't
exist if this was the case. Some schools however are little picky
(sic) about publishing photos where the kids can be identified but
there's nothing specific in the law about this.

Having said all that, www.bipp.com (where you could get a definitive
    answer) is under construction ATM.

    HTH.

Rob, you know nothing about football hooliganism.

The BBC do apparently seem to be on a bit of a "bikers are scum" mission at
    the moment though.

OK, just for you Ben, "the media stereotype of football hooliganism"

Football is a crap game, and I have no interest in learning more about
    it.

ITYWF it is more like a carefully worded disclaimer that they won't be
turning up later and asking for a fee.

And the bloke driving down the road in the background? Or the woman who
just happens to be walking past to go to the shops while the camera is
rolling? Or the dodgy trader shown on consumer rights TV programmes?
Or the fireman unrolling the hoses while his boss explains how they are
going to dig the last body out of the rubble. Or pickies of the rich
and famous turning up for a film preview? Or the fan behind the goal at
    the footie match?

You are confusing those who willingly consent to speak to the cameras,
which has all sorts of implied permissions built in, with the realities
    of life.

The may be issues involving libel and stuff where it is prudent for the
producer to make sure things are all hunky dory and litigation proof but
other than that they are free to point the cameras more or less where
they choose and there is nothing to stop them. Simplistically, it would
put news and general interest reporting out of business.

Talking of which, has anyone seen The Football Factory yet? I read the
book about 3 years ago but I can't help but think the film might not
    quite get the point.

Some might say the timing of the release was a wee bit irresponsible,
although I doubt the makers will care too much.

    Still who cares?

But that's my point. You object to the media stereotype of naughty
bikers, but continue to perpetuate the media stereotype of football
    hooligans.

I'd agree. I doubt the book can be conveyed on film.

On the topic of novels around football: "Oi Ref!" by Joseph Gallivan
is excellent, despite its amazingly poor title.

They do actually but the slant of the coverage is subtly different. With
the Max Power boys it's all a bit of "harmless fun". My brother-in-law
does some custom car interior jobs and the like so we've been to a
couple of rallys. There's just as much stunting and idiocy goes on at
these as at Bikers meets like Bassetts Pole. My b-i-l overheard someone
being interviewed last year and the questioning was definately of the
"this is a bit of harmless fun" type. Mind you he did think it could
have been for Men & Motors or something similar.

Good point. I have obviously been brainwashed by the media, and bought
    it.

Apologies to all those lovely football supporters.

  17. And if you dash to http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/midlandstoday/ and click
to view the lunchtime programme you can see him riding into the car
    park!

It is likely the clip will disappear shortly as the evening news
programme will be loaded after 7pm.

I was just about to dash there when I thought, "Hang on, I've seen Ginge
ride into a car-park before and it's not that special."

I'm sure his other 14 minutes and 55 seconds of fame will be much more
    impressive.

  19. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the

Just caught it - was that Ginge with the fluoro jacket?
