Well, that wasn't too bad

Oil change time on the Pan today. Given the amount of plastic one has
to remove to get at anything on this bike, it was surprisingly easy to
just drop the bellypan and change the oil and filter.

The annoying bit started when I wanted to replace the RHS cam cover
gasket. The cover came out OK-ish but in order to get it back in and
get the last bolt in properly I had to remove the little panel with
the fairing pocket. And of course *that* means that I had to take
another load of plastic bits off. That'd be a half-stripped Pan Euro
    then...

What wasn't really necessary was that noticed that it's leaking a bit
of coolant on the bottom pipe of the radiator. Great. Couldn't be
arsed to do something about it, I'll take care of that once I'm back
from the Fatherland. Better make sure that I'm carrying enough
antifreeze/coolant mixture to get me there and back.

I think I would have sorted it myself. It wouldn't take a lot of leakage
to cause an overheat. Bikes have a tendency to not carry a lot of
coolant, and run a little hotter than a car.

I usually only undo the hex-head screws on the left hand side of the
belly pan - then just pull it out enough to get at the filter.
When I did mine (to check the tappets, which I assume you did at the
same time to save doing it all over again), I just popped off the side
cover (2 screws) and using a UJ on a 1/4" drive socket got access to all
the bolts easily. There is a small (1.5" X 1") oblong panel near where
your knee goes that gives access to the last bolt.
I'd sort that soonest - nothing worse than a cooked ally engine...

Will Bold Timo make it there and back without popping a gasket?

    Tune in next week.

*Sigh*. I'm beginning to think you're right. Given my luck with most
things mechanical it probably would be a very bad idea indeed to ride
    it long-distance like this.

OTOH it must've been leaking coolant there for quite some time I
noticed some residue on the inside of the belly pan, but only when I
warmed it up for the oil change did I notice that it was dribbling a
little bit of coolant. I'm just worried that I'd make it worse if I
    touch it...

The accidentally burnt almonds in the bolognese wot I cooked tonight
tasted much worse than any amount of cooked alloy engine, I am sure.

Yeah, I popped that off first, but for some reason I couldn't get that
last bolt in properly again so I needed some more space to get my
    fingers in...
I'm beginning to think so, too. I'll see if I can get it sorted
tomorrow night because if I can't, I need to pay someone to do in
Tuesday night - I need it to go to Germany Thursday night...

Well, I've just come back in from another
take-all-the-bloody-plastic-off session. I've tightened the jubilee
clip a bit more in the hope that that'll work as a temporary measure
but it's beginning to look like a radiator-out jobbie after the trip.

What's actually leaking? The hose or the rad from the bottom 'spout'?
Hoses I suspect are relatively cheap (compared to radiators).

I take it that its a plastic/ali radiator? If so, it'll probably be the
seal between the core and the end tank.

If so, pop it out (ha, yeah right), and take it up to Auto Rad services
up at Caddington. He's very very cheap, and very very good. We used him
at Coupers, and not a single come back.

  17. Not unless one of the cylinders has fallen off. Mind, it's Timo, so it
    could happen.

  20. Just because it doesn't work, doesn't mean it has ceased to exist.
