Well that was an experience ....

I'm in the US again (Ohio) and this time, having a weekend to kill, I
thought I'd rent a Harley to check out the "experience".

Apparently I have a 2008 FLSTC (?). Bops around at 55 ok but opening the
loud handle appears to not increase the velocity that much, just increases
the grumbly sound. Knocking down a couple of gears means more sound and
slightly more acceleration. But to quote Clarkson the acceleration appears
to be of a continental drift speed.

However, it was a fun way to spend a few hours, and at 99 USD not an
    expensive daily rental really.

What was'nt fun was finding that being just slightly off vertical meant
stuff was grinding out underneath. Now bear in mind as it's a rental I was
at first taking it very easy yet still it ground out!

Still it ticks one of those "things to do" boxes. :)

That's odd - the big twins I rented certainly did shift better than
that. I was wondering why the bloke at the rental place had pointed out
several times that burnouts weren't allowed - until I whacked the
throttle open, thinking "this thing doesn't shift"...
Sometimes (off-season) you can get even better rates. Last time I had a
fully kitted E-Glide for three days for something like 130 bucks...
    They're used to that, I think :)

It may be down to it only having 250 miles on the clock perhaps it's not
    loosened up enough.

It was pleasant enough, just not the woomph I'd expect from a 1500cc
    it was from these guys

Yeah, something I've been meaning to do for some time. I think the
    local Harley emporium does rentals.

Just be careful of the running boards decking out. Underneath you should
find a rather large chunk of alloy that's the bracket for them - they
deck out very quickly after the boards do. And results in it lifting the
front wheel off the floor when done hard enough. And yes, I am speaking
    from experience.

    Fucking terrifying.
