Well, I'm shocked.

  1. I was convinced they were designed by a Nazi after being nearly gassed
    by a leaky heat exchanger.

Not even that. I had a quick scan of their website and I only saw the
Passat CC can have it as an option. Even the R Estate doesn't get it
    (not in the UK anyway).

Odd. Just checking their websites and yes, in the UK it only seems to
be available on the Passat R36. Over here it's part of the 'winter
pack' which is available on all Passats, but in neither country is it
    an option for the Golf.

Incidentally, I didn't see the Golf R32 when looking at the uk site -
is that not available over there?

The Mk6 R32 isn't out yet. Looking at a couple of Euro country sites, it
doesn't seem to be out anywhere yet - but Germany seems to have a Golf R
2.0 turbo, which France doesn't see.

Judging by the Polo diesel that my neighbour's been driving for the last
few weeks, since his Mk5 R32 went back to the leasing company, the Mk6
GTi isn't exactly in full delivery yet, either...

The Mk6 one, no. When I ordered my Golf the Mk6 GTI wasn't even on
the website (not that I'd have got one given the tax implications of a
    thirsty petrol company car).

My mum has just taken delivery of her Mk6 GTi which she ordered in
    July.

Apparently there's now a 6 month waiting list and she could sell it
back to the dealer for 5 grand more than she paid for it...

It's a very nice car, I must say.

  8. Unfortunately not, ironically (to your comment) it (The Beetle) was
    designed by a Jew.

I hadn't realised that there'd been a model change, TBH.

But that makes the heated screen thing all the more surprising, as a
brand new model might be expected to have all the latest kit
    available.

The Mk6 is just a (reasonably heavy) facelift of the Mk5, so the 'screen
aperture itself is probably unchanged - they've focussed on only changing
    the cheap-to-swap stuff...

In Germany and CH the 'R-level' designation is available as an option
on the 'individual' trim level. So most of the exterior features,
body, bumpers, grill, door sills, etc. of the R36 could be added onto
    any Passat.

But it seems they've taken it a stage further on the new Scirocco and
Golf and are pushing it as a special edition type of thing.
Interesting that they're doing it with a 2-litre, twin-turbo, engine
instead of the 3.2 litre jobby. 270 horses in a Golf sounds pretty
    tasty, mind.

I'm off to have the stitches removed this afternoon so it'll be the
big day out riding to Stafford then the Black Horse tomorrow. I've
ridden the bike most days this week and it's actually more painful
    driving than riding the bike.

The big decision is whether to go back to work next week because I'm
booked off sick for another week. I'm bored now so I reckon I'll go
    back.

With internal electric heating elements as I thought I was commenting
    on?

Heated, as in hot air blown up on the screen, is standard everywhere a
    heater is supplied.

Which is what i meant too. I haven't seen a car in years with the
heating element on the surface of the screen. Even my Opel has the
multilayer rear windscreen/window with the electric heating element
    inside.

Yeah, my Fiesta that I owned since 2006 had an electric heated screen.
    Very very handy in winter.
