"So far Howard's luck has survived a great deal: his move to dismiss
broken election pledges by distinguishing between "core" and "non-core"
promises; his retrospectively time-limited "never ever" pledge on the
goods and services tax; his vagueness about when he committed Australia
to war against Iraq; his shifting standards for ministerial conduct; his
demonising of asylum seekers as child killers; his tendency to blame
"advice" rather than to openly accept responsibility when things go wrong."
Will Howard's luck survive another election ? Do Australians not care
that their PM is a liar ?

    SBS Monday at 8:30.
It's not as sharp as "Music Jamboree" but it's still well worth a look.

I'm sure the DVD will be at your local library in a few months if you miss
    it this time.

I had to admire the balls of fronting up to the KKK and asking to join,
because even though Jewish, he was more aryan looking (blonde hair, blue
eyes) than Hitler and if they'd been at school together, John would
probably have beaten him up for being a wog! All this in a room with the
Grand Dragon, a couple of paramilitary goons and a raft of neo-nazi
    paraphenalia!

  5. I remember it from early 80s (maybe even late 70s) Triple J (or was it
even Double J?) Anyone else remember Dr Poo? Whats Grafton To You Is
    Rangoon To Me?

And telling the Klansman (who was rabbiting on about how Jews were the
offspring of Satan) that Jesus was a Jew.
"Oh no", says the Klansman "you don't know Scripture. Jesus was
    immaculately conceived"
"Yes but jewishness is passed through the Mother's bloodline....."
"There's the door. I think you'd better leave!"

I remember listening to a record of "From Rangoon to Grafton".
It was narrated by, of all people, respected ABC newsreader James Dibble.
Very "drugs, surf and panelvans" but fairly funny.
That would've been 1979 or earlier.

Hey, the klansman was the one who raised the maternal jewish line issue,
remember? John asked him if any kids he had by a gentile could join the
klan because they would not be Jewish! John was just asking for
    consistency :)

    They guy's brilliant!

Yeah, it was JJJ - the Morning After Show - weekend mornings with Mal
and Vic before they went commercial and crap and everything.

"We're the Mormons, we've got what it takes,
Malvern Stars, with front and back brakes,
White Teeth, Black suits, permanent smiles,
Same pressure in our bicycle tyres...."

how come I can remember that, but not where I put my keys??

No, you were closer; it was called "What's Rangoon To You Is Grafton To
    Me".
I was stunned to hear it (and the story behind it) played on TripleJ on
Sunday morning while I was waiting in the car for Michelle.
We never had the Js in Brisbane until the early/mid 90s so the current
"30 years in 30 days" JJJ retrospectives have been very enlightening!

But there was ZzZ. Always entertaining in the
    70's and 80's.

Four Zed Double-Zed as Norman Gunston once called it.
Yeah, very much like an underfunded and disorganised version of TripleJ. I
went to a few of their Joint-Efforts up at Cloudland.

Ditto. The bouncing floor was unreal with a
head and\or belly full. So many great acts
were seen there. The carpark down the
back was a pisser in the dark when raining.

It still rankles me that Joh and the lads were
able to send in the Dean bros. to pull her down
in the dead of night. His head shoulda rolled
    for that disgrace alone.

Once I had a clean-out and drove over and
gave zzz about 200 lp's (some probably collectors
items now). They wouldn't play Zappa's "Billy
the Mountain" but they did play "Bobby Brown"
for me. Larfed myself silly on the way home.

If not for them, it was a pretty barren radio
landscape if you sought more than cheesy
Top 40 and inane, cheesy and "safe"
    commentary. More power to 'em.
