most of the a13 i commute on is specifically marked for motorbikes,
between the blackwall tunnel and limehouse. between limehouse and the city
it's not actually marked but i think that's because the signs haven't been
updated, since the bus lanes are full of bikes the entire time whether or
not there are buses there and nobody appears to be getting any fines.

as i understand it ken doesn't have strong objections to motorbikes in
bus lanes as they don't impede the progress of the buses. however, the
various councils involved may have their own ideas.

well, I can only assume North London councils aren't keen on bikes, as
as far as I can see[1] Enfield, Harringey and Tottenham are still
    banning bikes from buslanes.

[1] there appear to be to many "as"es in that sentence, but it parses
    ok to me.

You could have put a "for" in.

Maybe it's just that people believe (rightly) that someone who's 'made
it' and who decides to show off his dosh by riding around in something
the size of a number 39 bus, not giving a flying **** that he's belching
out kgs of toxic gases, is a bit of a flash, classless twat.

That was/is, AFAIK, one of the trial areas. It's far from common. The M4
is the only other place in London I've seen bikes allowed in a bus lane.

"because" might have been better, now I think of it.

oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the bus/taxi/bike lane on the M4.

When I was working in Windsor in 2002, I used that, though I found
myself fairly frequently dropping out of it into lane two to undertake
    other vehicles.

    [of Boris]
Hands up anyone who'd actually be offended to be compared with Boris?

And Ken's better, is he? If we're using gaffes, forced apologies,
sackings (and party ejections no less) as a yardstick, I'd say they were
    pretty much neck-and-neck.

Livingston's got an arrogant tendency to steamroller unpopular policies
contrary to the wishes of the population he's meant to be serving. The
only thing that's going to change that is being knocked down a peg by
losing the mayoral election and nobody in their right mind is likely to
vote for that tit Paddick whichever party he aligns himself with.

ah, i didn't realise it was a trial. i have seen other roads where it was
specifically marked, in croydon/coulsdon for instance, but maybe it's not
    the norm as you say.

long trial though - those signs have been there for what, 5? 10 years?

I'm sure the tube's not quite as bad as it once was, but it's still a
pretty dismal experience during rush hour. My journey to or from work is
fucked up good and proper on average at least once a week.

TFL would do better to concentrate on the carrot than force people to
take up a twice-daily session with the stick.

I drive a 21 year old Range Rover because I often tow heavy trailers and
car transporter trailers, and quite often go to places that are
inaccessible to 'normal' cars. I also use it for carrying heavy tools
that quite simply can't be easily carried by 'normal' cars. It also
takes up less roadspace than, for example, a Mondeo. It's taller, and
400Kg heavier, but a Mondeo can't tow 2.5 tons easily and therefore
would be useless for me. The Range Rover is a tool that I use for work,
so by using what I think to be the right tool for my job I'm a flash,
classless twat and should be taxed to oblivion? **** right off.
