Well, at last they've given up with the lies...

I've worked at both Burfield and Aldermaston and I've also worked on
nuclear submarines, both hunter-killer and missile. I think I've seen
more weapons delivery systems (and worked on the development of them)
    than you even knew existed.
    Jealousy will get you nowhere.

I didn't say I had ever handled or even seen in life a complete primed
nuclear weapon. Just the guts of the beast.

Cuba? What were they going to do?

    Why not?

They'd be expected to pay the same for a pint of milk, or a loaf of
    bread.

Why should having your bins emptied be priced according to the value
    of your property?

Well, 75% or so[1] of LG funding is from central government anyway, so
    why not?

While I can see the appeal and possibly the added transparency (and
less scope for central government meddling, yeah, right), my paranoid
self doesn't quite see that the central government would give up that
much in the way of taxation. So you'll probably end up paying a lot
    more. Again.

That said, it seems to work OK in Leftpondia.

Because it's a taxation and not a fixed fee for everyone.

I wouldn't mind if some other 'taxes' were done away with before
council tax. It pisses me off that I pay the maximum national
insurance contribution yet take hardly anything out of the system
whereas others get free prescriptions ffs.

Note the use of the word "LOCAL". What is the average income in LBTH?
Some googling homework for you: SSA (Standard Spending Assessment), RSG
(Revenue Support Grant) and NNDR (National Non-Domestic Rates).

    Case proven.

I was taking the piss when I commented on free prescriptions because I
don't want to see the NHS start means testing and I certainly don't
want a two tier system where anyone not directly contributing gets a
    lower standard of care.

what I don't understand is why sugar mongs get free scripts when other
    long term medications don't.

I'm saving the NHS money by keeping my bp under control but I have to
    pay for my scripts.

It's not universal; I don't get free prescriptions as I can (so far)
adequately control my blood sugar without recourse to medication.

V, for that is her initial, suffers from debilitating headaches
(inherited from her mother, it seems) and the most astonishing chronic
asthma I've ever seen. Without medication for one she'd be pretty much
perpetually incapacitated, and without medication for the other she'd
probably be dead. Yet she still has to fork out the thick end of 120
quid a year for the (admittedly vast quantity of) drugs required to keep
    her alive.

Less critically, my eyesight is hit. Without specs, I'd be partially
sighted at best - able to carry out basic functions, even reading a book
would be an uphill struggle with the page held 3" from my face.

If either of us were on income support, we'd get drugs and a lovely set
of retro specs gratis, but means-testing means that we don't. Tbh, I'm
not overly fussed - I'd rather spunk 400 quid on a decent set of goggles
than wear the Joe 90 efforts they give away for free, but it all still
depends on income at the bottom end.

What's my point? No idea, blame the shiraz. But think about it. Or
    something.

And if I was a somali refugee? Oh lordy, don't get me started. It ain't
like this in Israel, I can tell you...

    Has V consulted her dentist?

My SIL had similar debilitating headaches for years, which were
eventually traced to a jaw misalignment, which bthe dentist corrected
    over a period of time.
