You have *no idea* how far my eyebrows liffted when I first scanned the

  6. Depends. Many ShiteOldTrucks (pre-1989, IIRC) don't have speed
limiters. And speed limiters are only fitted to trucks over 7.5 tonnes
(HGVs, as you say), and a 7.5-tonner is still a big vehicle. A decent
    7.5 tonner will exceed 70, no problems.[/QUOTE]

OK lets clear this up now. Speed limiters became mandatory on LGVs
over 12 tonnes GVW that were registered after Jan 1 1994. There was no
    retro fit requirement.
The limiters are generally set at a max of 90km/h. There is a
tolerance, some are taken to the max of that tolerance, most are not.

The limiter only limits the speed when the vehicle is under power, not
for instance going downhill with a bit of weight on, where you can
sometimes get up to *cough* 75 mph.

Vehicles registered before 1994 are not required to have a limiter
fitted, but must abide by the motorway maximum speed limit of 60mph.

    http://www.cybertrucker.co.uk/menace.htm

This is getting more difficult to do on modern vehicles. Watch out for
Republic of Ireland reg'd trucks, who seem to have infinitely variable
    limiters fitted.
Weggy says that this UK reg'd truck has an A plate number, but this is
likely to be a personalised plate. There are very few pre '94 artics
on the road these days. AS the truck comes from Spalding (veg growing
land) it is most likely a freelance international fridge hauling
perishables, who are notorious for speed limiter alterations as they
work on very tight deadlines with sometimes very high value loads.

It was all very odd indeed. I was a paint sales rep and she was a coca cola
    machine sales rep.
Seems that every where I had been that morning (colleges) she had been too.

    Very odd.

The bastard thing was I didn't get rid of the car. The assessor was very
keen to scrap it until he discovered it was a lease car.
He then went from re-shelling it to having it jigged straight. It was
bloody awful after the repair, which was one of the most fucked up bits of
bodgery I have ever seen. The car was physically wider afterwards, the
bloody parcel shelf just fell through the hole where previously it had
snugly nestled. The car was a fucking nightmare afterwards, and I had to
keep it for another 2 and a half years.

You are, of course, right, but like a good, consciensious company man I
    didn't.
And the company eventually repaid me by fucking me over in the most
    shittiest of ways.

    Happy days

    But who decides what's frivilous?

Compensation for damage to goods - and self! - and legitimate expenses is
fair enough. But a lot of these posts seem to be encouraging people to
look for more things to claim. How is that really different from all the
ambulance chasers' clients that we castigate?

  13. To be fair, I've always regarded these "take the bastard for everything
and more" postings on ukrm as piss-takes. I don't know anyone here who's
ever regarded them as instruction manuals. I don't think anyone's that
    daft.

I really liked that car, and I'd had to do the most skillful amount of
negotiation to get it in pearlescent black.
Following the repair it used to just cut out for no apparent reason, took
the garage almost a year to get it sorted. Then, about 18 months after the
repair I was washing it and notices a small brown stain on the wheelarch.
Poked it with my finger, which went straight through. The boot used to fill
with water and had 2 jagged welds across it where a new panel had been
    thrown in.

    Utter shite

death and sex are quite closely linked, which is why so many people
    **** after a funeral.

I guess what I'm asking, AAW, is: did you knob the wife on the hard
    shoulder?

I repeat that I cannot think of one poster on this ng who would try to
    commit that sort of fraud.

And whenever I hear someone saying: "Well, it might encourage people
to....(insert misdemeanour of your choice)", I tend to ask: "Well,
would it make you go out and do that?"

The reply is invariably: "Well, no of course, I wouldn't, but someone
    else might...."

And the answer to that is: "Why do you therefore assume that you are
that much more intelligent, knowing, reponsible, (or whatever) than
    everyone else?"

The day I hear someone say: "This shouldn't be done because *I* might
do X, Y or Z", is the day I'll take this kind of lament seriously.
Can't remember it ever happening, though.

On the basis of this thread, Verdigris, are going to go out and commit
    an insurance fraud?
