I'm sure there must be an award of some sort for The Sprog, who managed to crash the Fuglipla into the Ural this morning.
Was it you? Let me know, cos I've still got the fucking prize here. -- Champ ZX10R | GPz750turbo | GSX-R 600 racer My advice as your attorney is to buy a motorcycle To email me, neal at my domain should work.
Not me, it was Andy Broadhurst, and that should have been a ZX9R http://groups.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/msg/f74debcc6615fd8d http://groups.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/msg/8b67cb9334b95c5d I think the lower limit on damage to the bike for the FBOTY is more than either of mine is worth.
Does putting your bike in the actual bin count? Mine is going in for about 5 grand's worth of warranty work soon, so Kawasaki may do just that.
Dealer is being really good at the moment and beating up Kawasaki themselves. He is going to start pushing for a new bike now as the bill for this work is likely to outstrip the cost of a new bike. Basically it looks like the head doesn't fit the block, so after replacing the head gasket they're now going to try a new cylinder head. The head costs about a grand, then they need valves, rockers and assorted other stuff to make up the head which is about 2.5 grand, then a hefty labour bill and they still can't be sure if that'll sort it. I've refused a new engine or block because that'll mean the v5 needs altering and the mileage of the bike, engine, and service history will all have discrepancies and will affect the re-sale value. So we'll see what Kawasaki come back with.
Actually changing the engine number should be really easy - mileage stays the same as it's held electronically in the clocks, and the major service isn't til 8K if I recall, so ignore a re-stamp for 600 and get the book stamped at 4 and 8 as though nothing unusual happened. The V5 only shows the current numbers, so the change won't be held as history. I'd go for a new engine.
It's just had it's 4k, that's where they saw that it still had a problem. Yeah, but the V5 will show the engine number of the previous engine unless its changed. Can you change that? I dunno. Frankly, I'd be happier with a new bike.
