Wednesday's ride report

    Left home en route to NW Keller's to meet some others.

    Rolled up to encounter Louie and his wife having just ar-
    rived. Met Louie's wife(whose name I shall not disclose
    here), and took a long look at the bike they were riding.

    It's really a great looking bike. It doesn't look that big,
    but I know it is. I guess the reason it doesn't look big is
    because it seems pretty low. Anyway, it seems like a
    real nice bike, and Louie seems to really like it well.

    Soon, Bill arrived on the "Green One". I was certainly
    glad to see him looking good, and feeling pretty well.
    He has a new air horn, that he sampled for us.

    It was a real pretty day, and we all had some good
    conversation(s). Thanks for the visit today, I enjoyed
    it greatly.

    Louie and spouse had to move on after a couple of
    hours, Bill and I remained and talked for about another
    30-45 minutes. Bill then began his ride back to Irving.

    We met/saw some of the other Keller's hooligans, out
    to enjoy the nice day. I made a short ride out Nw Hwy,
    just to get the bike up to temperature. Returned home
    and garaged the bike.

    Took my wife, who's recently been sick with the flu-
    like symptoms, out to dinner later on that evening.

    Returned home in the car, and I could see a shiny ref-
    lection coming from the bike's rear tire. Parked the
    car and checked out the shiny object with a flashlight.

    Of course, the bike's rear tire has picked up some kind
    of nail/screw, or other implement of destruction. So, after
    1,162.7 miles(or, 126 days), I have another tire injury.

    As much as I detest a plugged tire, I may plug this one.
    I haven't decided.

    It was a good meet up, and Ole Walker didn't look a day over 74.

    Nah, must say Walker was in an upgraded state today; looking real good.

    Another plugged tire!! Bjay's lucky day.

    Gary, if you want me to send you the pics from today, shoot me your email.

    Anonymous, that is awful, I'll tell 'ya, in your case I too, would
    probably ''plug that rascal''.

    Yeah, these tire punctures are getting tiresome. Still,
    migrating to a car tire wouldn't alleviate the problem,
    unless they're puncture proof.

    ========My luck seems to be a little bit better than Gary, I believe.
    The ''screw'' that I picked up at my SIL's that day (last March 7th, in
    fact), was in the front tire, if ya remember? And I rode on that day,
    didnt plug it--what? about 150 miles!
    And continued to ride it another 3 months, (about 2000 miles)'cause it
    only leaked about 5 pounds a week. I finally replaced it, when I got
    ready to sell it.

    I kept the tire. It aint ''lost no' air hanging up out in my wood
    shop, for a keep sake trophy like thang. MrJayT=

    Well there's certainly plenty of experiences posted
    on the net, for your review. However, it may just be
    that I was not looking for the Goldwing stories, but
    the Valkyrie stories seem a lot more prevalent.

    But, apparently I'm wrong. The following search
    criteria/statistics indicate otherwise.

    (I always have a hard time recalling if it's "Gold Wing",
    or "Goldwing").

    Using:
    +"valkyrie" +"car tire", I get 2,860 hits:

    But, you can see there are plenty of discussions to go
    around, on any of the bike models.

    Casually reading through some of those Goldwing
    adventures using a car tire, I came across what
    seemed like a valuable comment/question.

    Paraphrased - "If I'm runnin' a car tire on my bike,
    and I'm involved in a motorcycle-only type accident,
    could my insurance deny my claim based upon my
    use of the car tire"?

    I certainly don't have the answer, but I'm pretty sure
    that most insurance carriers will be looking for just
    about any reason to deny a claim.

    Obviously, it would depend on the type of accident,
    but I suppose the car tire use could cause problems
    well beyond those immediately apparent.

    Referring to the delphi site you referenced, have you
    read this?

    Now, I don't know anything about the participants on
    this site, but I would think this is some pretty significant
    news. Do you believe this?

    Besides, after having ALL the Hondas I've owned over
    the last 25 years being discontinued, I only have a little
    over a year to buy both a GL18 & an ST13, so they
    to can be withdrawn. <g>

    I guess it depends on what you call low pressures. I run
    around 36-38, front & rear. I don't understand what
    effect a specific pressure can have on pickin' up nails?

    That is some good info there Jerry. I going to go out and air mine up 88lbs.
    Double protect.

    One thing I've hear is that on those Valkyries, high tire pressure will
    knock out the rear drive. Have you heard that? Think there is anything to
    it?

    I think something(read bad) is going on at Honda.

    First, they're dumping the Marysville plant for MC
    production. Now, whether just rumor or not, word
    is that the GL/ST models are being discontinued.

    I mean really, what's next? Are they gonna' start
    puttin' 2-stroke engines in Accords?

    Motorcycle R&D is a difficult process, and buyers
    are a fickle group. But, for Honda to bet the farm
    by dissolving their two flagship GL/ST models, in
    favor of some proposed generic replacement, is just
    crazy.

    I think I recall a similar move a few years back when
    Honda ignored their market and squeezed out the
    Rune.

    How'd that work out for 'ya Honda?

    ====I believe, he keeps more pressure, becasue he twoUps more often,
    maybe than you. I keep about 40 in the rear, because my Honey is might
    nearly on the back every time the BigBadValk starts up, around here. I
    guess the theory of ''harder'' tires (higher AirPressure), makes
    ''screws' have more trouble ''pierce'ing'' them....and
    visaVersa.....reckon......MrJayT=

  13. Depending on the tire you choose you may find that you have to hang it on
    the bike uninflated to get the clearance you need. You may also have to trim
    a bit from the inner fender in the front. Then inflate it to riding pressure
    after the lug nuts are snugged down.
