Webcams are great.

  1. I asked a while ago about webcams. So we went and bought one.
Waterproofed it, and stuck it in the enclosure to allow us
    to see the telescope...

And then I went and stuck the turbo next to the aerials
    for scale...

(Note that this is a static grab from the webcam, which
is on our internal network only[1])

    [1] I think.

  3. This is the small part of the array; the 12.7m dishes are
at the other end of the site, and there isn't a webcam
    there yet...

  5. huh?

Oh, you mean the fence? It's not a fence, it's a partially
construction ground shield. When finished, it'll be internally
clad with metal to reduce stray pick-up from the ground.

Plus it keeps the wind off the telescopes.

    Cool.

Are those the ones on the A603 near Barton? I used to commute
daily from Milton Keynes to Cambridge and also learned to fly
from nearby Little Gransden. The radio telescopes there were a
    nice visual reference point.

How did you waterproof the camera / what type of enclosure did
    you use?

  7. On nice sunny days, we occasionally get a free stunt show, with people
    practising from Duxford etc.

Within the last month I was working inside, and heard a huge roar.
Came outside, and there were two WW2 age planes in a (presumably)
mock dogfight. Sat and watched for a couple of minutes. Lovely it
    was.
Stuck it in a waterproof box with a transparent lid, with two cable
glands at the bottom; one for the cat 5 cable and the other for
the power cable. The camera is an axis 205 camera, which has
it's own ip address and server software, and the box is
    just from RS.

  8. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember (William
    Grainger) saying something like:
That's a decent sized roof on your house, I must say.

When's the next MRAO open day? The ShiteOldDad and I has a wonderful day
a while back pretending to understand all those keen Bright Young
Things[1], and I think it bears repeating.
