Wearing glasses

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Nick Le Lievre, May 21, 2009.

  1. Admittedly I'd not bought a new pair of glasses for about 8 years, one
of my pairs have to be repaired all the time (with super glue) because
they have a weakness on one side (they normally put a bigger screw in
but couldn't) and the other pair used to wear uneven, one side was lower
then the other thus I looked funny, I was wearing these today when the
lens popped out somewhere, on the way home my eyesight seemed a bit off
and it wasn't till I stopped until I realized the lens had gone.

So now I am looking for a pair of glasses that will hold together under
the forces exerted when putting them on inside a helmet, is it best to
    go with a thicker pair.

I've been riding with specs for 16 years and I've never had a pair fall
apart due to wearing them inside a lid. Even my old rimless ones, which
were the flimsiest set of specs I've ever owned, were fine.

That said, if I lost a lens, I'd notice pretty fucking quickly. My
    eyesight is dreadful.

  5. Bollocks I got the last post wrong, sent it before I typed it!!

I buggered up a couple of pairs of specs with pushing them in and out
of lids until I went the flip-up route. But the most successful in the
full face hats was a pair of those that you can twist and buckle etc
and they return to their normal shape. The only difficulty I had with
those was not always being able to find the top of the ears first
    time.

It's best to go with a lid that fits, then you won't have any problem
    with glasses.

Bendy titanium frames. (I can't remember the name but I think it's Memoflex
    or summat).

I've had the same frames for the last 8 years and I keep getting new lenses
    installed as I need them.

Just talk to your optician. A proper optician, mind - fucking
Specsavers and their ilk won't want to know.

SMA would be the way forward I reckon. Or contacts. Or surgery.

For me, finding shades that fit nicely under the helmet is a pig, but
since I rarely pay more than 25 squids for them, due to their short
life expectancy, I just live with the odd broken one.

The specialist visor shops should be able to help.

Get a bi-focal one. Then you'll be able to read the instruments as well as
see cars coming from a distance.

And polarised, of course. And tinted, preferably photochromic.

I can't read anything on mine coz the frames are so thin. Almost rimless
    they are.

I got a pair of Memoflex (or whatever they're called) shades at the same
time I got my normal specs. They've had 3 sets of lenses in them now and I
won't be getting anything else. I don't know if the bendies are available
    anymore either.
