Wearing a helmet in a petrol station vs crossing the border

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Anonymouslemming, Mar 4, 2009.

  1. I remember a discussion around here a while back about people having
problems wearing lids while buying fuel, even when trying to pre-pay.

Imagine my surprise this weekend when I found out that I could
actually cross from France into the UK without ever taking my helmet
off. Both UK and French passport control were quite happy for me and
the missus to cross without removing helmets.

On the whole, the channel tunnel experience is phenomenal. It just
    works.

I've always been able to enter France without removing my lid but the
last few times I've come back UK immigration have insisted on me showing
my face (prior to that they seemed more interested in the assorted
colours of dead insects on the front of the bike than what my face might
    look like)

Do you have an open face or flip-front lid?

  3. We went both ways with lids on. I have a flip-front and flipped that
up, but my mate on a different bike was in a full face and my wife was
in a full face and neither were asked to remove them.

    I don't think I've ever experienced that.

On the other hand, the last couple of times I came off a ferry in a /
car/, they insisted in taking the car 1/2 apart looking for
    contraband.

IMO that always happens when you travel in a car alone.

    In communiqué
Not IME, well not lately anyway, even when towing a bike on a trailer.
    Or perhaps that's why not.
