Weak Dollar So US Imports?

at $2 a £ is should be very rewarding to import Goldwings or Harleys.
Mot really your first choice of motorcycle maybe but you could even
hope to sell it at a profit or try to acquire a taste for one. Last
time euro bikes were a lot cheaper than uk ones there was a rush of
parallel imports, I actually bought a dr350 from ls imports saving
    £1,000.
Does anyone know of a route to get into US parallel imports now the $
    is weak?
    Thanks

I know a vehicle can be driven to the new 2003 Motorcycle SVA
examination from the place it is stored and back again without
registration plates if it is to a pre-arranged .

    1. Buy loads of bikes in the US without inspecting them closely. Enough
to fill at least one if not two 40' containers

    2. Ship them to the UK, get stung by customs to the tune of 25% on
    purchase and shipping

    3. Register everything in the UK just to find out that this also costs
    major moolah

    4. Wait for the punters to show up, but they normally don't

    5. Go bust

    6. Repeat ad nauseam

Well I can't remeber the cute saying but explosive combustible engine
    devices or somesuch
so shipping is expensive. £500 per bike is reasonable.
Many a happy hour spent in TARIC (what are "car coats" and why are they
    12% import)

    http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/en/tarhome.htm

You have get a 1950's mentality and wording to search for anything,
it's a wonderful wonderful carousel full of holes like VAt on mobiles
used to be, and Carbon trading will be.

Europe meet Carbon trading, it relies on a strict policy and the lowest
    price wins.

+25% on the transport cost of moving the item in addition to the
    import.
Best option, the results for tax on bankrupt and goods in a state of
purgatory limbo and VAt is wonderful.

  5. Yes. Buy them in the US, ship them here, sell them.

Of course, there *are* issues involved in choosing the sort of bikes
that will sell in the UK, sorting out headlights that dip the wrong way,
fixing those bloody silly indicators that glow when the bike's running
(they don't still have those, do they?), and ensuring you don't rip
people off, and I strongly suspect that someone who has to post here
with as basic a question as yours hasn't got those areas covered yet.

Twin-filament jobbies. 5w for running lights, 21w for indicators.

    Or similar.

  9. Absolutely.

I forget how many bikes you can cram into a container - 30 plus, I
think, if you remove sticky-out bits like mirrors and maybe bars and
    pack them separately.

The blokes who make money out of importing from the US do it by bringing
in old Jap stuff, which can be picked up for a few dollars in states
where they don't rust, and then either do them up here or brake them for
    parts.

Faded paint is an issue, but sorting out paint is a lot easier and
cheaper than trying to source decent chrome mudguards and an OE exhaust
    system.

Incidentally, if you haven't cheked your messages - going to France
today via the Tunnel for a shopping raid. If you want anything text me,
and we can drop it at the Schloss on our way home this evening.

So has the Corvette. Not been a problem in the past, & judging by my
restoration progress so far[1], it'll be a while before it's ready for
    its next MoT.

[1] Still damp after a week with the de-humidifyer sat on the driver's
seat. Some electrics work[2], but no sign of life on the dash. Arse.

    [2] Lights, fan, wipers[3], seats & stereo.

[3] Switched on ok but now won't switch off. Squeaky squeaky.
