Got me fucked why the **** lives here. He takes every opportunity to
shit can Australians and Aussie riders. His worst effort was when Corser
got the flick from Aprilia. He reckoned that Haga was the deserved rider
for the team. Thing is, the following year, Haga did worse than Corser.
And how fitting now that Aprilia is no longer racing superbikes.

Dunno why you fellas bother with the prick.

Not that many but more often than not he was the front running privateer
leading the second string of non factory Yamahas and Honda twins. I know
you probably weren't allowed to stay up past Fat Cat in those days so it's
understandable if you don't recall, after all most sports based archive
websites only record the top three. You actually had to be watching the
races to recall those further back from the six or eight factory bikes that
    dominated back then.
And once again you missed the whole point. The V4 NSR500 was a fast bike,
probably the fastest bike competing at the time. In having such a
performance it sacrificed a certain amount of rideability and because of
this only really exceptional riders could get the most out of it. Spencer,
Gardner, Lawson, Doohan and Rossi were all in that kind of league. Lesser
lights like Yatsushiro, Burnett, Haslam and in the later years Criville,
Okada and Gibernau (sp?) mainly rode on the coat tails of their respective
team leaders as was shown by their dismal performances when deprived of a
first rate rider in the team capable of putting real input into the bike.
Rossi is a terrific rider and may well win the title this year too and I
would be the first to congratulate him for such a noteworthy achievement if
he suceeds. You would be premature to be placing bets on him yet as there
are many more races to come and the outcome of this year's title is by no
    means certain.
A good rider is never too good to crash. Buy a history book and read up on
the story of Jarno Saarinen and Renzo Pasolini some time. These two men
were effectively murdered by the actions of a pit crew and some grossly
negligent officials at Monza that year (1973 or 74). Despite the fact that
in a previous race the works Benelli had come into the pits before the end
of the race with a severe oil leak the pit crew manager sent Villa back out
so he could finish in the points regardless of the oil trail he was leaving
around the track. When two British photographers noticed this and also
noticed that the officials weren't doing anything to clean it up prior to
the next race they bough this to the attention of track marshalls who
responded to their warnings by threatening to call the police to remove
them. The net result was a massive pile up on the first corner of the race
resulting in the deaths of the two men and several more riders sustained
    injuries that ended their careers.

As an interesting aside as part of an independant investigation both the
Yamaha and Aeromacchi teams inspected each other's bikes to check for
indications of the alleged siezures that officials claimed caused the
calamity and no evidence for such was found though the Yamaha team found
that the Italian Aeromacchi bike was in fact running Yamaha pistons.
Like he ever had to push his bike that hard in the decades he raced.
