We ran them out a little bit

Unwrapped the Green One.. fiddled around a bit and decided
to make a trip out to Grapevine..

Ran into hwy 183 from Irving blvd and too the Airport exit to
ride the bypass around DFW.. Dang, it was just too nice out
there and the Green Vulcan was rumbling along at about 55
mph.. The speed limit, of course is 45 mph along most of that
bypass, but it's sure a nice little road with some smooth curves
and a few rolling type hills..

Something came up real fast behind me and when it went by
it was some guy on some kind of sportbike.. He kinda looked
around me and grinned when he gunned by me, that way..

Hell guys.. it was too nice a day for me to let him get by com-
pletely, so I kicked the Green One up to about 75 mph and lo
and behold, when we topped the next little rise, sure enough..
there sat one of the Airport cops, on the shoulder..

The dude on the sportbike evidently didn't see him and he
was still gunning that sucker when he passed the cop..

I let off a little bit, and when I was just a little way behind the
cop.. <he was still sitting> he gave me one of those "catch
him" waves as I went by.. So.. I did what comes naturally and
really rolled on that throttle.. At about 95 mph, I overtook the
sportbike, but didn't try to pass, I just sat there and rated him..

I know that road like the back of my hand, so I just contented
myself with laying back and waited.. We made the left at 17th
St.. and I commenced to chew on him a little closer and by
the time we hit that first sharp curve, I was in position to take
him on the downside.. When we cleared that curve, I cheated..
Dropped a gear and nailed that Green Vulcan, real serious..

The sportbiker was completely off guard and I outran him in
the next sharp curve and by the time I got to the first red light
coming into Grapevine, it was all over.. He eased up along-
side of me, gave me a big grin and a thumbs up.. <kinda re-
minded me of Bjay, except this guy was no more than 30 yrs.
    old>

We pegged up and rode the rest of the way into the dealer-
ship like we had good sense.. After we parked, that young
dude introduced himself and stuck his hand out.. We shook
hands and some of the smokers were outside, as usual..

I heard that old kid telling one of them.. "that old dude rides
the shit out of that motorcycle, did you know that".. The parts
guy laughed and said "yep.. that's Bill Walker, he makes that
800 of his scream".. That youngster said "800, my ass".. He
marched across that parking lot and got down on one knee
to examine the engine on the Green One..

The guy came back with his hand out again.. "I want to shake
hands with you again.. I'd never have believed an 800 cruiser
would make me feel so helpless on this 650 of mine.. I shook
hands with him again and then confessed that I'd cheated by
taking him downside on a curve and dropping a gear on him..

We all got a good laugh out of it..

Good run report Bill. Now that I'm on the threshold of the "Old Coots on
Scoots" I can appreciate even more the phrase that goes something like
"Old and mean beats young and strong everytime".

On the home news front I finally got Bike back from Full Boar. The leak
is gone (for now) and riding home up through Hurst, South Lake, Grapevine
and in to Area 51 was nice a smooth. I was happy to notice that shifting
produced an audible 'click' instead of the previous "clump".

I'm looking forward to a ride that Pat St. Jean is putting togther aimed
for the 18th. Details are at

    http://www.wherestheride.at/

I'm calling the "Sugar-rush Ride" cause it's taking down to Hico for some
pie then oer to Dublin for some real DP.

Good for you. I appreciate that young feller, being a regular guy, and
having the good sense to treat you like a gentlemen.

Not only did he find out that you were riding just a ''800'' , bet he
probably found out that you were old enough to be his Pappaw. I imagine
one of your friends at the store told hi,,,right.

That speaks well for a ''sports Biker''.

Yep, it ain't whatcha ride, it is how you ride it...... I learned
that.... trying to stay up with you, in the Ozarks back in late
    April....<g>

--PeeS; Bill hope you finally got that Jar opened. Or atleast, had fun
trying with the womens help. (smile)

Aw heck, Bill.. There ain't no way I could take that guy on the bike he was
riding .. Straight up and flat out, he had me.. <chuckle> Besides, that
    Green
Vulcan of mine wasn't built to outrun anything.. I just outmanuevered him a
little bit and we never run over 95 mph.. He was mostly just taken by
    surprise.
Damn, that's good news.. Hopefully, the problem was taken care of..

He sure did that, alright.. Gotta compliment him on the gentleman that he
    was, also..
I didn't say anything about age, but some of the guys in the dealership told
him that I'd just turned 73 and his mouth flew open..
lol.. I never noticed that you were having a problem "staying up"
    with me..
I threw that sucker away.. Ain't no use in having a jar around that you
    can't
    get opened..

LOL.. That's the "fella".. Yep, ol'Binns sure made a big deal out
of a couple of guys out having some fun.. In his silly meandering
this lone sportbiker has turned into a "bunch".. I'll give odds, the
young guy on the sportbike hasn't been riding very long, his bike
looked fairly new.. Even so.. that guy is already more biker than
Don Binns will ever amount to..

I know.. I know.. Binns isn't a "biker".. that's for sure.. He calls

    Surely not!

Surely there's a post that has a bunch of sportbike riders being
outrode by "some old man" on a midsize Kawasaki....I read this as
someone riding with a sportbike rider for a distance through the
    airport.

Whatcha' wanna bet...we will not hear from ''The Calgary'' again on
this interesting topic. The reason; ''DonB calls an onGoing
    discussion thread, a ''pissing match''.
Especially when The Calgary is confronted with the truth, the whole
truth, and nothing but the TxMoto truth.

I do believe 0l'Binns mind is more dementiated than mine..... it
appears he remembers only the parts he wants to, and exagerates the
    rest.....

LMAO.. That's pretty much the way he operates, alright.. Hell, the boy
does the same thing with his own posts.. Puts it out there one day and
    denies it the next..

<evil grin> I think so too.. Without going into all your usenet
    acrobatics..
please be good enough to point out the "bunch of sportbikes", "couple
of sportbikes".. and all the "smoking" that was going on.. LOL..

Reads more like a couple of bikers, airing out their motorcycles, just a
little bit.. like the header indicates..

In keeping .. the follow ups on that thread indicates a lot of fellowship
and good natured exchanges being made, also.. Can't relate to that
kind of relationship, can you ?

You and your bedwetting, army reject buddy aren't doing so well, are you ?

Whoops.. what did the man say ? You post your bullshit on a newsgroup
and if someone responds to you, by your definition, they've started a
    "pissing match"..

Again.. don't let it slip your mind.. YOU brought this up and got me in-
    volved .. LMAO..

Yep, claiming ole Stevie riding roads and bragging about Stevie riding
to the maximum lean angle "When we stopped in Browning I checked out
Keith's rear tire. It was scuffed to within 3/8 of an inch of the
edge", then didn't know anything about it.

I can't answer to the bunch of sportbikers that Donny popped off
about, but the "smoking" was the sales/parts guys at the
dealer....happens everytime I show up too!

more stupid than I've always given him credit for.. Hells bells .. he's
    right..
there was some "smokin" goin' on, huh ?

Hey Binns.. you and your old bedwettin', army reject partner are all
fucked up.. I don't think either one of you two wannabee assholes can
ride a motorcycle, especially with each one of you trying to vouch for the
    other ..

Looks like 'Ole Sgt Bedwetter seems to have flew the coop! Just when
Donny Boy starts defending him, he's no where to be found...

He might be out practicing up with that old Goldwing to "outride"
someone and prove he can....it'd seem if he can ride as well as Donny
Boy claims, he'd be better off going for that $2000. It'd sure pay
    better than breeding gelding gerbils....
