Lighter weight, better pad cleaning & even expansion. Plus you can whip
them off & use them as Chinese throwing stars if you get attacked by
    Ninjas.

    I think they're supposed to :

    a) cope better with heat-induced expansion
    b) cool down quicker
    c) keep the pads clean

Not sure how much of a benefit the later is - or whether it shortens pad
    life.

  6. On the flip side

    d) less surface area for the pads to do their job
    e) they look shite

In my own personal case, they were each £30(+VAT) cheaper than normal
    replacements for the Daytona.......

And, given that the Daytona's brakes have a horrible habit of overheating on
track days and fading to cock all, I thought "Well they're cheaper and
they're supposed to allow greater heat dissipation - even if they don't do
    the latter, I've saved money"[1]

It's definitely not a fashion thing - if I have something I can assure you
it ain't gonna be considered fashionable (looks at Alfa on driveway, pile of
NS400 bits in garage, Tom Jones CD collection, dress sense.. etc etc etc)

[1] Of course they are harder on pads and with the pads I fitted the discs
themselves will wear out pretty quick, but given that the original Triumph
ones only lasted 15,000 miles, as long as I get around the 12,000 mile mark
then it'll work out about the same cost.

The outer edge of the disc is travelling faster than the inner edge and
the wavy bit means that the perimeter is larger, so the linear velocity
delta is greater, leading to greater cooling and improved brake
    performance.

As yet, measuring technology cannot demonstrate the improvement but it
has been proven in blind testing.

Cleaner pads are more of an MX thing, ITYF.

  12. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Higgins@work"
8 out of 10 cables said their owners preferred it.

I dunno, but those PFM ones I ordered look like properly "engineered"
    kit.

Milling marks all over 'em. Big swirly swoops of graininess.

Light, too. I reckon the pair of fronts weighs less than the single
    rear.
