Well, 48 in a 30 isn't too bad. He should plead guilty to that, and fight
    the other charge.

  4. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
I sincerely hope the vehicle was fitted with bullbars, Maverick bonnets
and front panels being not terribly robust.

In Wales? He'd be better off taking the manslaughter rap and getting off
    the speeding one.

Actually, I'm going to write to Brainstorm demanding more manslaughter
    cameras on Welsh roads.

Brainstorm is in charge of north Wales plod, that incident was Cwmbran,
south Wales plod, closer to London then north Wales plod HQ.

Yebbut "them oop norf" & "them darn sarf" in England would have to be
the same by that reasoning ;o) ... and I've heard lots of comments on
    here to refute that!

Ah, but what if some looney drove up behind Sorby in a much larger
vehicle and pushed him along the road, at breakneck speed?

It would only take one looney...

I'm wondering how they knew he was doing 48, and was it his approach speed,
his average speed for the exercise, or his peak velocity while bumping over
    the bodies if his slain?

I am somewhat biased on this one, so I'll just say the **** is lucky to have
been caught by the authorities as quickly as he was. There's sure to be a
welcoming committee if he ever gets out.

    RIP Dog.

Understandably, having seen the link below.
Or else the club would have had him dealt with? That takes me back to
    a place I'm glad I'm out of.

Events back then and this now, lead me to the age old 'is meeting
violence with violence ever justified?' debate.

Back then, I decided I didn't want people in my life with that
attitude. Your Mileage seems to Vary. That's your choice. I will say
    that it takes its toll.

Is it ever worth it? Particularly in this case where the guy in the
    4X4 wasn't inhabiting this planet.
Even if he is medicated, in a sane (whatever that is) state of mind
and shows remorse for actions under taken when he clearly wasn't in a
state to take responsibility for those actions?
Sorry you lost a friend, particularly in such senseless circumstances.
    This is UKRM...

I know what you mean. I walked away a few years ago, but when the right
colours are run up the flagpole...

Justified? Almost definitely. The best solution? Almost definitely not.
    Appropriate in modern society? No.
It is however, IMO, a basic human instinct with which (I would guess) most of
us have struggled at some point.
At the moment I do feel an overwhelming need for revenge of some kind, but
quite what it would achieve I don't know. It certainly wouldn't negate the
grief I feel, although it may quell the anger? It will subside I guess.
Nope. Well maybe a little ATM.
    Apparently not.
    Agreed. In so many ways.
In some cases yes. Punching the school bully on the nose was well worth it,
    for example.
    planet.

    See below.
I believe we are *all* individually responsible for our actions. I can think
    of very few exceptions.
Thanks. And thanks for your comments which have helped me think a little more
clearly, through what is a very emotive issue.
    Heh, ain't it just.
