Was it YOUR GSXR 600 on I-80 Emeryville on its side in the middlelane?

  1. Last Fri I was headed back to SF from Berkeley, and at
3pm the traffic seemed a bit more clogged than usual --
I notice cars stopped and navigating around a bike,
on its side, in the middle of the damn freeway.

I pulled over to the shoulder, parked, and walked into the
sea of cars to note that the bike was still running! and
hit the kill switch, turned the key, and got it upright.
Then, trying to find neutral, I noticed that the gearshift
peg was floppy and held in place with duct tape. Stolen
bike? Nah, it had factory keys. Not the first time it
had been dropped, though. A friendly cager comes along and
blocks for me as I get it to the shoulder, and he stops and
uses the call box (easier than using our cellphones).

The bike is not stolen, according to the dispatcher, the
doofus^H^H^H^H^H^Hrider has called it in. From the looks
of the bike, he tried to occupy the same space as another
    solid object.

    Lanesplitting requirement #1: depth perception.

Anyway, I thought I'd buy us all a little good moto karma
by getting the thing out of the way. Very funny, I had
concerned people ask me as I was walking the bike "Are you
okay?" "Not my bike!" and pointing to my red-and-black
    thing on the shoulder.

A CHP motor officer headed the other way (E) glanced at
the situation, but he didn't show up in the five minutes
that I waited, so I saddled back up and rode off.

I'm not sure the Gixxer is a good *first* bike. ;-)

Sound like a nice reliable bike , eh? Leave it for dead in the middle of a
freeway lying on it's side and it continues to run?
    Wow.
    By the way... How bizarre!

  3. I do wonder if the valvetrains were getting any lubrication,
though. And didn't gixxers have that nasty tipover cutoff
switch, which nearly killed racers when they experienced a
    headshake?

    Guess he musta disabled it?
It would have been weirder to see a helmeted, gloved person,
wandering around on the freeway, with no bike in sight.

Maybe he got a ride to the hospital with the person he
    collided with.
