    serrated blade...that sounds good.

Nope Obama is a condescending, self righteous ass. Just like Gore...
as for Mccain. Something just ain't right with the boy. I don't mind
he's flakier than a homemade apple pie. The best I can describe it is
that there is something reptilian about the way he looks at the crowd.

Oh, I wasn't supposed to tell anyone. Gotcha! ;)
It was. And so was the brisket, beans and tater salad. Darn good!
Too bad you weren't there to help eat it. The VFW puts on a mighty
    fine feed.

    Update...

Oh dayum that was good! Lamb breast (ribs for the heathens) mashed
taters (lotsa butter) a greek style salad. Had to settle for Boston
Lager as the distributor doesn't carry Shiner, Celis or Pearl...I'm
going to waddle around for awhile. The pork ribs weren't to shabby
either. URRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP damn, never knew hickory
would work that good with lamb. Who knew?

I was stationed in Hanau for a few years in the late 70s-early 80s. When
I got married (an American serviceWOMAN) I moved into an apartment that
was part of an elderly German couple's house.

It was fun because I spoke and understood enough to have conversations
with Willie Verhasselt about his time in the Wermacht during WWII. Frau
Verhasselt would bring me down some really tasty (and filled with
alcohol) chocolates and cookies. I would go shopping at the commissary
to get her some steaks or roasts in return. A great relationship.

There was also a time when I was at the bus station at the town center,
dressed in civies. There were a couple GIs really acting bad - I was
embarrassed by their actions. They came up to me asking if I knew how to
get to G-town (Gelnhausen). I was so embarrassed I answered in German,
"Entshuligen aber Ich spreche kein englisch, es tut mir lied".

They walked away saying "oh yeah, just what we need - another f'in rad".

I got on the bus and laughed all the way home.

Emigrated to Texas from New Jersey in '91 and have spent the last 17.5
years thinking I out to learn Spanish - either that or head down to the
hill countryand work some more on mein deutsche.

My SIL grills lamb. He and our daughter love it. I don't care for
lamb but the salad sounds great. I'll be able to eat salad again,
after I have my surgery next month. I've gone months now, without
being able to eat any green leafy veggies, or anything with fat in
it. After surgery, the first place Joe has to take me to, is the
Olive Garden in Abilene. I'm going to pig out on their salad and
bread sticks, with that olive oil dipping sauce. Yum! Can't wait!

Hey, we might have been there at about the same time as you
    (1980-1983).
Joe was stationed at Fliegerhorst Kaserne and when we finally got
housing, it was just outside Pioneer Kaserne. The largest city close
by, was Hanau. We lived in Langenselbold, in a German apartment for
almost a year. Our neighbors directly upstairs were "Communists" and
they were constantly spying on us.
Good relationship there. My Germany Landlady wanted me to bootleg
cigarettes and whiskey for her son. Nicht als ob, nicht!
Hmm, we knew a Willie & his wife Bridgette. They had a garden plot
right outside of Pioneer Kaserne. He could throw some hellacious
parties. That's why he had a small building there, with beds in it.
    LOL
Your German is just about like mine was. LOL Did any German hear you
and were they laughing too? You should have just said "Ich spreche
Amerikaner nicht." And then you "lied" about it. ;)
There used to be German classes on satellite TV and I tried to get my
daughter to learn more. Instead, she learned some Spanish. I guess
that is good, because she now lives in San Antonio.
You're a Texan at heart and that's what counts. :)

lives somewhere in the NW? Used to raise ''sheep'' or goats, or some
