My godson's little brother is the famous [1] "designer baby" who was
(apparently) created as a perfect genetic match so that his older
brother's life could be saved due to an extremely rare blood disorder.

UK health peeps [2] would have none of it so the parents spent
(literally) tens of thousands of pounds on private treatment in America.

My godson is now a perfectly healthy 10 year old thanks to a stem cell
transplant.

[1] was in the national press loads of times a few years back, and the
subject of a television documentary.
[2] they denied the treatment to my friends, but then approved it for
another couple with similar circumstances in Leeds. Once the private
treatment was bought and paid for they were then told that if they
applied again they'd prolly be approved. They were cuntish in the
extreme (IMHO).

Heh. I lived around the corner from his place in Muswell hill. Not
sure if he was locked up by then though. This was Sept-Oct 1983.

Did you see the TV programme they did about him. Creepy little fucker
by all accounts.

Just as a follow-up, I spoke to him the other night and found that he
had made at least as much of a fuss as it needed to get twice-weekly
physio sorted within a couple of days. Making good progress, it seems.

TBH I don't have enough details, neither dates, times, nor places, and
although I suggested that he might take it higher, frankly I don't
think he CBA.
